Thinking of picking up a Benchmade 710 D2 tomorrow morning....
Have a Griptilian 553 tanto already.... thought about a Spyderco Military, but found the handle too large...tried handling the 710, it felt really smooth and looked pretty good...
Any suggestions in a similar price range???
I am a light user... Just enjoy blades :)
Or should I go ahead and get the 710???
Right now the only folders I have are the Griptilian 553 Tanto, a Buck 110, Bantam and an Opinel #8...

When in doubt and considering a 710, I say buy the 710. One of my all time favorites, and it's the knife that keeps my PM2 and Military in the drawer.

I have a 710 and I love it. I don't get to carry it much though because I work full time.

If you order from a certain place in Louisiana, you can get an 810 Contego for about $130 plus shipping. They also have the 710 for $107ish plus shipping. You can't go wrong with either one though you may have to sand the G10 on the Contego.

I have a 710 with M4 steel. It offers a large blade for the overall profile of the knife. I find the 710 to be a little larger than I prefer, but that is just personal preference. If it fits your hand, it is a great knife.

Thank you.
The place I am picking it up from is sold out of PM2s, so I have not had a chance to handle it yet. However seeing your comment, I wont worry about that.

I did consider the 810, but the shape of the blade on the 710 just appeals to me more...
Since i am here in the true great North, hate waiting for delivery, worrying about customs etc. and since the local place is not too far off with the price, also it is a local business...I think I am going to pick it up there. Your suggestion is much appreciated though!

Your response seems like another vote to go for it! M4 would have been great, but at this point I think I'll be ok with the D2...

Thank you for taking the time to respond!!
About 3 hours to go... :)
Will post pics if all goes well!!!!

Well...so i was supposed to pick it up this past Sunday, but when i got to the dealer it turned out that the only one they had left was the one in the display counter.
Now this knife has probably been handled by more than a few customers, and possibly knocked around a bit..they did not want to give me a break on the price either, which is higher anyway in Canada. Decided to walk away from that one....

Waiting now for another place where they said currently sold out, but new ones are coming in by Friday....so the wait continues...

Congrats 416IT! The 710 is an excellent folder... very compact for such a big blade and carries like a dream. Enjoy! :)

I had a regular 710 in D2 that I gave to a buddy. Not because I didn't like it but because I did and just wasn't carrying it anymore--way too nice a knife to sit in the drawer!

Thanks! This will be the new EDC for me for sure!
Glad it came pretty sharp! Unlike my 553 that I got a while back...

I was considering a 710 too does anyone know anything about the blade hitting the standoffs. Sorry for the hijack

Love the 710. It is a classic. Just wish the thumb stud was 2mm farther away from the scale. I got fat thumbs.

Love my 710. Congrats.
Thanks!

When you get the itch again, try a little 707 Sequel on for size...

BM 710, 940 and 707

Checked it out...it is really nice, great when wearing a suit etc... in the future perhaps :)
That is a fine set of blades you have there!!

No worries! Far as I understand that is only an issue with the M390 LE...
CoulD be wrong though... I am sure some one with more knowledge will jump in...

:mad: ARGHHHHHHH :mad: I want one now, looks so nice. :greedy_dollars:

It feels even better in hand than it looks!! Really smooth open / close!!!
Can't go wrong, it's a classic ;)
There seems to some up for really reasonable prices at US dealers...

Agreed, I am surprised at how close to the scales they are...but after a little while I am sure you will get used to them because really its more of a forward push rather than up and away from the handle..
If you get a chance to handle one, will see that the placement actually makes sense...

Congratulations! I own a 710 in M390 and it gets more pocket time than just about anything else I own. Actually, I need to sharpen that bad boy.
