When you strip the coating, the logo shows on the blade? Huh?

Yes Desmobob. After my tan SARsquatch and my black Game Warden, this is my third stripped Busse knife. The logo shows only on the Game Warden and this Ash-1. Not the SARsquatch.

Very interesting!

You did a great job; that ASH looks great. I have an OD ASH, too, and those photos tempt me....

Nice work! Did you remove the scales to sand out the dimples?

Hi VoxHog,

No. I put a few epoxy paint remover with some cotton swabs, I wait 5 minutes, and then I "sand" with fine steelwool. I prefer to let the coating under the scales to protect against the rust.

Are those G10 black handles or Canvas that you've put black shoe polish on? I took my FSH with mag tan canvas handles and put some brown shoe polish on them and shined them up really good, and it looks like glossy wood or brown G10. amazing the effects some shoe polish can have on handles. Your's look like G10 Black, but i'm curious.

Fbusmc, I've seen your nice work with the black shoe polish! Super effect
I've only put some linseed oil on my standard black canvas mag. handle (it become yellow, waterproof and harder with time), but I'm going to try the black shoe polish too because I like the brown effect.

Maybe I will convex the blade too :

I convexed mine, and polished the handle with brown shoe polish. I think I will eventually strip it , when more of the coating is worn away.

The finish under the coating looks great on that one you did.

My FBMLE with smoothed scales looks nice and shiny with a light coat of brown shoe polish as well.

Nice work Bigfattyt!

Yes, I have chance with the finish under the coating. It's not always the case. On this one (Gideon' Ash-1 from scrap yard Forum) there were circular grind marks on both sides of the blade : http://www.scrapyardknives.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=203155&page=15&fpart=all&vc=1

You know... Sometimes you pick up a fine, although heavily-coated ASH not really knowing what lies beneath all that coating until you get 'er home and strip her down nekkid.

Sometimes its just damn ugly... dimples all over it. In your case it is just smooth and firm... nice!
