Ok, one more thread ---
"One more knife then that's it."
has anyone been there, and what was the knife?

Maybe some people say:
"oh, I need this knife, because it doesn't do what my other knives do, and so, if I have this one knife, I can do 100% of anything I need."
OR.
Maybe it's far simpler --- "oh I've never seen that before, it's different, and therefore I must buy it"

Well, in May, I came across what could have been the be all end all knife for me, an Alan Davis custom on the exchange for a great price. It's fantastic, but the week before I bought it I had ordered a custom, due to arrive in November.

I'm at the point where I have to get rid of a knife (or something else) in order to buy one. This is getting more difficult because I use all of my knives except ones I intend to get rid of.

I plan to pick up one or two this weekend then call it quits. I'm moving next summer 1100 miles and need to save for that expense.

Depending on what kind of salary I can get with a new job I may start accumulating again at that point.

For me it is the reiff 4, then I rediscovered (lol) an earlier search of Brisa trapper 115 in 80CRV2, $162 isn't bad but the reiff F4 is 334.00 so I reset my priorities. I do a lot of talking myself out of stuff. My patriot scout will do everything the trapper can do, so it is an unnecessary purchase --- is how my logic machine usually operates

I was chasing different steels before when I was buying more often.
Now I don’t have as much zeal for acquiring more and more. Seems the steels are rounding for one premium steel and concentrating on high edge retention.

I did recently buy one that is unique and was a must have just for fun.
Probably not my last one we’ll see.

What is the steel?

I want it.. That's all it ever takes🤔.....It is quite a step from I like it to I want it though😉

I am there right now. 😂
Wanted a Bark River Canadian Camp, like a decade ago, but at the time all I could find was a black canvas micarta (and I am not a fan of black handles for outdoors knives). Realizing it wont be back in production I gave up.
This year I preordered a Kephart for kitchen use, thinking it will be the last Bark River and maybe even my last fixed blade I ever buy ... and then, going through the DLT pages, I discovered the Tundra III Camp, which is pretty much the blade of the Canadian Camp with the handle of the Aurora, which I have and use. So OFC, love at first sight, ordered and awaiting delivery next week. So now, after many years, I think I finally have every bushcraft knife I wanted (but only if I manage to forget about the existence of the Malanika puukko). 🥲

Trying to rediscover some of the knives I already have….yet, still obtained some new ones, different design and steels that Caught my attention.IMG_0514.jpegIMG_0513.jpeg

I think we've all been there at some point, when we were still in denial that we were collectors. If you're still looking at ALL, it's not over.

For my part, I have flare-ups, when I buy and sell several knives. Then, I go into remission for a couple years.

This is as opposed to my dad's generation and prior, where a regular fellow would stop looking, one he found a knife that met his needs.

I remember my Dad and granddad each had the basic Spartan Swiss army knife.

Later in life, Dad downgraded to a Victorinox Classic, which he always kept on his keys after that. Utility knife in the tool box and that was about it. Only thing he ever had more than he needed of was cars.

I wish I was more like that and less obsessive.
