...where you think its going to be plain, uneventful, maybe even boring. But as the day moves on it just seems to fall into place...

I wake up late due to my 15 month old son, having a fever from teething, not sleeping more than an hour at a time. Realized I have to help a friend move his psycho gf out of his house; I was supposed to be there 30min ago with the trailer. Crap. He calls me and tells me she got some of her kids' friends to help and he was coming to pick up the trailer, so I was off the hook. That's fine by me. My son wakes up and he isn't feeling to good still, and the wife has to study big time for finals. Crap I'm stuck at home with a fussy baby. By noon his fever breaks. The wife finishes 4 chapters of studying. Cool. Wife decides to go get her eyebrows waxed, and take the little one and I with her. Crap. WAIT! It's my dads birthday! I call him and he is working on his truck. I'm stuck going to the salon. I asked the wife why she was going because she just went last week, and her answer is, "I'm going out with the girls tonight." Hmmm, why does she wait 'til the day of to tell me? So I can't tell her that anything else is more important, because she already told everyone she will be there and some of them can crash at our house. Great, a bunch of drunk women riding in on their menstrual cycles to tell me how they don't need men in their life.

After the salon, she tells me to go pick one of the girls up on the way home. Yes dear. Get 5min from home, her phone rings. It's her father, he is parked in front of our house wondering where we are. Ok cool, I thought. He is in from out of town and maybe he brought some of his cigars so he and
I can escape to the garage for a smoke and some scotch. Nope. Dropping off Christmas gifts and then leaving. So I guess I am stuck.

After making a late lunch for everyone, our son takes a nap. I put on a movie. After a few hours, the girls start getting ready. Then the rest of them start showing up, but it's not her usual friends. Some of them are our mutual friends of many years and some others from out of town. Now this could be a decent party! The wife is waiting for some clothes in the dryer and decides to take a couple of the girls to the liquor store for a pre-bar primer! She doesn't even ask me if I want anything, but she walks in with six pack of Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale! Sweet! I crack one open and thoroughly enjoy this years rendition of their hoppy winter ale.

As I sit back with my beer, watching the flurry of activity that suddenly sprang up in our house, my son comes running over to me and climbs up in my lap just to sit and hang out. This is going to be an OK night. I get up and fire up the stereo, dig out some good dance tunes. First up is Kings of Leon for the girls, puts them in a good mood. Then run through a few R&B top 40's. Now I break out some good dance music; Beck, Guerolito. My wife puts the flat iron down and comes running out of the bathroom, grabs me and we start to dance to one of our favorite songs! The rest of the girls join in! I make my way over to my bar, get out some of the good stuff and make a round of fresh grapefruit martini's for all the girls. None for me, I do have to be at least somewhat responsible as I will be staying home with a small child.

After about an hour of dancing with various women in my own house, having an excellent brew, and now enjoying the company of my son I can say this so-so day has turned into a fantastic evening! It has become Just one of those days...

So, What do you put on the turntable and in your glass to make it a fine evening? For me it is usually two fingers of Johnny Walker Blue and The Black Keys, followed by a Romeo & Julietta cigarillo, after the little one goes to bed. Tonight, it was the friends who were the enjoyment for me.
