Greetings,
Anyone that uses rod guide systems may be able to ansewer this!
IS the Gatco system any better than the Lansky system, which I personally consider junk, any better. If so why. Opinions Please!!!!

Beakman,

FWIW, I started with a Lansky, and got excellent results with it. I bought a used Gatco off Ebay, and used it a few times.... but never could seem to get quite as good an edge. They were OK, but didn't seem quite as sharp as the Lansky. Not sure if it was because I was more used to the Lansky or what... although I wouldn't think so, since they're both about the same.

At any rate, I don't think you'd find a lot of difference. What is it about the Lansky you don't like?

I too get much better results with the Lansky than the Gatco. Gat stones do not seem to be of the same quality or as consistent as Lansky's. Have you
checked the clamp positioning, even clap angle (check the gap between clamp halves from front to rear and adjust your screws to even it out), rod position and depth when locked to stone holder, counting strokes from side to side to keep bevel even, insuring the sharpening angle is the same side to side, that the bevel is realistic for the quality steel in your knife ?????? Check Lansky's website for more ideas and a few tricks. Good luck. Jim
