Just one?

I am sure this question has passed before so I'll apologize ahead.

If you could only take one blade with you(for camping/everyday use) which would it be?

I was originally leaning towards the RC-5 however, after all the old posts and additional reviews I've been reading, I think the RC-6 wins out.

I know an Izula would also be a great option too, just looking to focus on which ESEE I buy (first:D). Because I have a feeling that after the first it'll lead to a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc . . .

Guess I am just trying to "plot" my savings & purchase schematic:thumbup:

Thanks for the helpful insight,

Mike

I love these threads. I change my opinions of my "one" at least once a year. Right now my one is getting pants from my buddy Noah of Wasteland leather. I will post more pics when it gets home. I designed it and Stomper made it. I designed the sheath too.

If you want a production "one", ESEE knives are a HUGE value.

My ESEE6 is a main stay for me.
Any hiking or camping adventure does not take place w/o my ESEE6 & RAT Firekit.

Just a quick side note: If you can - post a pic of the "one" specially if it's not(for shame) a ESEE'r.

Thanks again.

Mike

Well I don't have 5 or 6 yet, or Junglas since its not even out yet :D I'd have to say my 3 cause its all I have right now :P but not for long ;P I'm trying to sell some of my old text books to a friend, so hopefully that'll free me up just a little to maybe tag one ;P

I think the RC5, number 1 because I trust it the most. I know for sure when I batton or chop with it, that the edge will hold and it will not break. I know for sure I can easily maintain a very sharp using edge with a single 800 grit arkansas stone and a piece of wet and dry sandpaper. I know it's there, the weight gives me reassurance I didn't drop my knife 2 miles ago. 5 inches is just long enough to get the job done while not being excessively long so as you can accomplish finer, detailed tasks. If I had to survive with one blade, the Rc5 is what it would be.

RC-6 for sure, and just like texas tony I always bring my DMT Diafold Coarse/Fine with my knife no matter what. Best field sharpener there is.

For me it would have to be none other then the ESEE-5,If I could only have one rat I would want something "somewhat" unbreakable. Love everything about the 5, but for sharpened glass breaker for outdoor use I would prefer it pointed but not sharpened like the 3.

Its all up to your style of outdoor-ing. If your looking for a good "outdoor/everyday" blade the 3-4 is probly you best bet. Nice an light/compact for a fixed blade with its capabilities but if your looking for more of a camping/outdoor knife I would choose the 6 over the 5 because of its weight. And I feel that does the finer work a bit better. Its really the only blade you need for the wilderness! Does everything great!

I know the 6 will make way better feather sticks its just me who needs the practice but you get the idea.

? weigh that thing. and how much did you spend on it? because I paid 3 dollars for my Smith's arkansas stone and 1 dollar for a big sheet of 1000 and 2000 grit wet and dry. I guarantee you it takes up less volume, is cheaper and gives a much finer edge than a DMT Fine stone.

I don't notice the weight at all, to me its featherweight but I am really big. For you it might be to much, I wouldn't ask you to carry my gear. I prefer Diamond to other sharpening stones, and I put a little bit toothier edge on my working blades, 1200 grit is the most I go. I paid 25 bucks for it but I still eat and all that. DMT Benchstones and steels are what I like to use. Grit paper for you is fine with me.
