Well, another Becker is on it's way to me. I just did my tax return and was mildly surprised with what I got back, so the plan to get a 5 for a christmas gift for myself was cancelled and I decided to treat myself to it now.
Looking forward to using it, I want a good kitchen/bbq knife and from what I've seen on the forum this bad boy fits the bill. Pics will be posted to show it off during it's first use, I know you guys and girls like pics :)

I was scratching my head on the tax return until I saw where you live. :D Post up some pics when it arrives!

It's no BK9 but it will give you +1 luck and give you a slight reduction in the number of bugs that splatter themselves on your windshield.

You will not be disappointed. If you hold the blade sideways in front of your windshield you'll get even more protection out of it.

I have two of them laid on my windshield, I use them as my windshield wipers. It not over removes the rain for my windshield, it also removes any bugs or foreign materiel on each pass!

It's here! Just had a quick look as I'm about to take the dog for a walk, but I should be doing a whole bunch of cooking this weekend, so I'll post pics of the knife in use and show it off. Quick first impressions: I like the thinness of the blade, good for delicate work, it has the old coating which I suspect will be better for a cooking knife, and the length is good for slicing larger items.

Can't wait to use it!

Just wait, soon you'll start a new thread like 'How to EDC large fixed blades!' and make yourself a shoulder rig, or IWB sheath for it.

I hope you get many years of great use from it. I don't have a 5....yet. I love my 2, 9, 11, and 14 so far though!

I actually love my 5 for what its for. Camping. I use it to prep food and it is awesome at that.

That was quick...Did you buy it from here or overseas? By the way, for a dedicated kitchen knife, you might want to strip the coating from the blade.

I brought it locally, ordered it on ebay from a local seller who hasn't let me down yet. I've been thinking about stripping the blade too, just so it develops a nice patina more than anything :D Thanks for the advice, any advice or suggestion is always welcome.

Strip it. I can't really bring myself to use a knife with paint/coating on it for food.

It's great food prep knife that can still hold it's own during more outdoor oriented tasks. You will not be disappointed! Post pics!

I like the 5 for food prep. Of course, it doesn't like my wife too much. It bit her pretty good this last outing.

You'll be happy with the 5. And the 15 as well, once you realize how nice the trailing point knives are and buy the smaller one.

Okay, finally got around to using the 5, and I loved every second of it. I decided to cook up some of my quinoa and vegetable mix, nice and healthy and filling at the the same time. I make enough to do four or five meals. This recipe is vege only, but I have used diced chicken and turkey mince before with good results.

Okay, here we go with the pics, sorry some aren't so great I was using my phone.

The 5 in all it's glory, ready to slice and dice

Sliced onions with no problems

Carrots were no trouble at all

Really thin slices, this impressed me.

The 5 went through tomatoes beautifully, went through like butter, no drag or resistance at all.

The ingredients so far, simmering in the pan.

A whole capsicum sliced and diced.

Decided to add some pumpkin for a change, the 5 cut through really nice.

Everything cut and cooking. Also added kidney beans, lentils, cumin, cayenne pepper and paprika.

Everything added to the cooked quinoa and mixed through.

So there we go, the first meal prepared with the 5 and it didn't disappoint. It was a pleasure to use and very sharp right out of the box. I will probably strip the blade in the next few days, I can see this knife getting a great patina!
