Just ordered a CS Voyager

I'm brand new here, though I have been a reader and learner on this site for years. I like Cold Steel Voyagers (large plain edge clip point) and just ordered one, even though I already have 2 of them. Some sites list them as discontinued and they seem very hard to find. Do you think they are gone forever?

I don't know if you realize it or not, but Lynn Thompson (President of Cold Steel) recently retired and sold his company. I stopped by my local knife shop to purchase a Warcraft Tanto last month and he told me he had very few CS knives and was not sure if or when he would be getting another shipment. Keep looking. They are still out there. Good luck.

Yea, I know what is going on with the company. I should have been more clear and stated that before. Thats why I wonder if Voyagers (and other models too) are gone when the existing stock is gone.

Cool, I see there will be a drop point model also. I should have been smart enough to look on the website! I wonder if quality will remain at the same level going forward?

I don't know, guys. I ordered a few CS knives around the time the news of the sale broke, and I had a hell of a time getting a hold of just one of them. The other one got backordered months away, so I cancelled it.

I thought the new owners were going to be better at stocking the shelves?

(Yes, yes, I know it's corona and whatnot. But it seems to be really hard to get a hold of CS right now, whereas previously you could get them very easily).

The Voyagers are great knives providing very good value IMO. When the AUS8 versions were being discontinued I grabbed few at close-out pricing. Those AUS8 Voyagers have served me very well and, despite their duty, will likely outlast me.

I like Cold Steel knives and despite my passion for Bucks and appreciation of Spyderco knives (especially the Salt Series), CS was my favorite folding knife company ... until the sale - now, the jury is out.

The Voyager is my go to user and recommendation for knives in this price and size category. You get a lot for your money. Geometry included, because it appears to be ground by the same folks who do their higher end stuff. I really think CS's Taiwan facility grinding quality is the best I've seen south of $100. Since CS did away with hollow grinds on all non-tanto folders, the full flat ground clip point voyager might be their best non-tanto folding blade in terms of geometry.

I bought a clip point and tanto right when the news of the sale broke. There's a lot of uncertainty about if there will be restocks. CS was really giving a lot for the money compared to their competition. I hope their new ownership continues the trend.

P.S. I hope this is a Cliff Stamp sock account.

This was my thought also.

I don’t think they’re discontinued. The Voyager line is excellent. Check out the XL someday as well. Surprisingly more pocket friendly than I thought.

Btw, cool (and creative) username. :D

I like Cold Steel too. I also ordered another 4Max Scout. It is encouraging to see some new stuff shown on their website, but I guess the question for me is whether the quality will change.

The Stiff Clamp name is just a play on words that I thought was fun. The real Cliff Stamp has forgot more about knives and steel than I will ever approach knowing

I also hope that Cold Steel continues to provide great value for the money.

I think the panic buying brought on by the sale of the company depleted a lot of Cold Steel stock... I hope things become re-stocked at the current pricing!

I'm a Voyager fan and I'm looking forward to a drop point version. I have the Large clip point and the XL Vaquero Voyagers now.

CS will exist, don't worry
But if you want genuine CS, that's last call
or rather last call was day before yesterday !!

Buy leftovers of CS made in Japan, Taiwan, India, South Africa NOW !
Or second hand later.

 Get that problem looked at ! :p

I ordered the 4Max Scout and Clip Point Voyager in the last couple of days even though I already have these models. Yesterday evening I also ordered 2 large Tanto Voyagers. I guess I am panic buying but I don't regret it.

I just bought large and XL CP Voyagers off the exchange. I’ve had Voyagers since the mid 90’s, but I must say I’m impressed! They lock up like a bank vault. I mean, really. Other than pocket clips that will have to be bent to loosen them, they are superb in every way!

Did someone say panic buying. I'm still waiting for the SR1 to arrive.
