and i am very excited. i would have liked it even more with a Chicago legal 2.5" edge, but at least it is under the Illinois 3" "dangerous weapon" definition of a knife with which i would be "armed with a deadly weapon" ... so i will be looking for the DVD's and i will prolly spring for either a trainer or a CRMIPT ... alas i have nobody i can train with ... i train a bit alone with a mirror and a heavy bag, so i hope that some diligent shadow practice and studying i can make up a bit for the lack of a willing partner. anyway, this is pretty exciting for me ... will make a great nightly companion to my EDY SS Cricket.
p.s. i took a look at the Tusok on the ccsd page and cannort wait for a version of it to become available .. a smaller version of the gunting woohooo

Bram Teaches all over the place...If you're looking to come to Florida, there are a few courses coming up. You should get the trainer- CRIMPTs still have sharp horns. Go to WWW.CSSDSC.COM, All the world's knowledge awaits..Or go to WWW.S2institute.com for the schedule there..Welcome to the cult, --Joe

thanks for the help joe. i have searched extensively both here as well as on other 'boards and have sucked up all i could from bram's site as well as some others that google provided. i know i will need to get a trainer soon ... FLA is a bit far, but you never know, maybe chicago will be in the offing sometime :)

Also, I made a kind of training device for the Gunting, a wierd articulated arm/mook jong. I don't have pics, but I'm trying to get a how-to together. Remind me in a few days if I don't have anything up.--Joe

Congrats on the Gunting!

Mine goes with me everywhere...even abroad.

I'm lucky to have several different partners to train with where I live.

The drone is a definite must. You get to be a little more creative with the drone during practice drills since it's a little more 'forgiving' than the live blade.

Vac,
Welcome to the club!! Be advised! Joe BOK,& the others espec. Steve are all NUTS! I am the "only" safe & sane one in the G family!! Anything I can help with ,just ask!!
Jim

speaking of the tusok, is it now set in stone that it will not be released by spyderco?

Waning-Jim is lying! He's insane! He's responsible for me getting into all of this to begin with..Joe

As I recall, the Tusok is not a dead issue, but Bram advised all of us to stop bothering Spyderco about the it. Someone innocently posted a photo of the prototype Tusok, which caused major problems. Spyderco is a small company, and does not have a large public relations staff to handle the inundation of calls and e-mails that result from such photos being posted. Spyderco does not release photos of products which are still in the prototype stage. If Spyderco is not showing a Tusok prototype at the knife shows yet, then it is a LONG way from production. Prototypes are shown at the knife shows at least in part to gauge the public reaction, to help the company decide whether to proceed with R&D. If I am mistaken in any of these statements, then I am sure Sal or Carlos with correct me.

I have to agree with Dijos, if there is a crazy one in the Gunting family, It's Jim C. (Sorry Jim, but you got to stop using so many capital letters and exclaimation points in your posts! It is the forum equivalent of jumping up and down and screaming!:D )

Guntings are wonderful knives. I bought mine in the Spring of 2001 and I love it as an EDC utility knife for one with arthritic hands. But may I offer two suggestions? Do not EVER practice kinetic openings with a live blade; several folks went to the emergency room in the early days of the Gunting for trying to do that. And DO keep the tension on the pivot screw relatively snug, as the "horn" on the blade tends to catch on things like your pocket and open the blade as you place the knife back into your pocket.

i have scoured the various forums and have been left with 2 very deep impressions: 1) NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER open a life blade kinetically on ANYTHING you do not REALLY want to cut, slice, dice, chop, tweak, stab, impale, or otherwise damage, and; 2) they reward the user who uses them and practices with them and who learns to understand the nuances of this wonderful design. thanks all!

It is one of the highest quality knives you you find at any price. It is extremely sharp of point and blade. Respect it.

I got two very minor bites from my Gunting early on both due to poor carry safety(one front pocket reaching for change and one inside waist band pulling off my shirt). I highly recommend either a sheath/pouch or get a drone and pracice carrying it before you go live. Treat like a loaded gun.

Thank you all for the very kind comments..
and to you long time user-carriers..thanks even more!
Just taught a cert course over @ S2 for the last 2 days on Gunting -CRMIPT..
I'm tired but as usual its time to go teach my regular Gunting class..
Holsters can be gotten from Survival sheaths or River City Sheaths..

be safe
Bram

Hi,
yeee, good choice! :) Its awesome knife!

btw: sheath, now i dont know from where pic is, but i post:

Simona's pic is of a Gunting sheath by Survival Sheaths, one of the models at least . . . .

Simona's pic shows a custom sheath from Survival Sheath. His standard sheath holds a folder in the opened position. Not to worry about the "custom" issue, though, because if I remember correctly it only took him a couple of weeks to get mine to me, and I ordered several. Robert has a Gunting to use as a pattern, so there is no need to ship yours to him. www.survivalsheath.com

Mike Sastre at River City Seaths also does great work and makes a very nice in the pocket seath that carries the Gunting somewhat lower in your pocket so that it is not quite so noticeable to casual and not so casual observers, IIRC. I have a couple of his neck sheaths for my BF Blue Native and my StarMate and they work wonderfully well. And I believe that he also has most of the common knives so that you need not send yours to him.
