With all the good talk about J.W. Smith knives, I ordered one of the mini-Scimitars from BladeArt. The blue CF one. I'd wanted the framelock, but someone snatched it up last night before I made up my mind! You snooze, you lose.
Impatient as I am, I had it overnighted. I only have 2 legal EDC folders and I was getting antsy waiting for the DDRs. :)
Here's their photo of it:

Got it today. What a great little knife. A lot smaller and slimmer than I thought it would be; about as heavy my large Sebenza, and a little shorter.
The blade design makes the 3" blade seem like a lot more blade. It's a liner lock, but is constructed well and passed the spine whack test easily. No way I could white knuckle it either- I actually have a hard time closing it when I want to! The lock is tucked out of the way, but it's not a pain to close, at least. Great ergonomics, with the thumb ramp and the sculpted handle. Very satisfied with this. I sent an email to Mr. Smith asking about getting on his list for a custom framelock model with wood slabs.

JWS' tactical/utility folders, whether they be framelocks or linerlocks are perhaps one of the most underrated knives and best values out there. Since i visit BA on at least a monthly basis and have often looked in their little JWS drawer, im sure i have actually seen your exact knife, they are surely awesome, and i rank his quality right up there with Mayo, Carson, Obenauf etc. I currently only have 2 of his framelocks, but am looking to add at some point a bolstered model, i just cant seem to get myself to like the exaggerated recurve of the Scimitars for some reason, oh well.

Nice knife :D

I picked up a JWS tanto folder "pre-owned" as they say - and I am very impressed with the fit and finish. The lock is the best I've seen on any liner-lock so far.

While I don't prefer "Scimitar" type knives. . . . . .that one is HOT !

Unfortunately, I don't have any of JWS blades (he's on the list of to haves). Seeing this one. . .his name has been moved to the top of the list !

Thanks for sharing !

:D

Yeah, I love this little knife. I want to order one of his framelocks now. Or a wharnecliffe. Or both. :)
The blue bead-blasted carbon fiber is very subtle. Looks dressy without being too fancy.
