Just ordered a Spec Bump off BF for $48 i love Kershaw knives for i have Carried a Leek forever but never had a thumbstud lock. Any pro's and con's . I never even used or operated a t-stud lock. But the knife looks real good satin blade with aluminum black handle. What do you guys think good deal? Good knife?
Curious to hear what you fellars think.

Are you sure it is a spec bump. I think you are talking about a speed bump. Doesn't matter though they are both really nice. The stud lock is awesome. Might take 30 openings to break it in, but after it seats its good to go. I have never seen the stud lock not engage and all it takes is a push of the thumb to release. If it is a spec then you paid a great price if its a speed then you paid a good price

I close it with with my index finger. Just push the stud forward and slide you finger over the spine to close the blade in one smooth motion. Very nice and your fingers never cross the blade path.

yea i messed up it is a speed bump the only difference in the speed and spec is the s30v and the handle material correct.

Most speed bumps have a plastic handle with a rubber inlay, but you got the nice one with the aluminum handles. Good buy. The spec bump IMO should be labeled as a ZT. Don't know why kershaw didn't do that. Kinds glad though cause it would cost more

Why is it as heavy duty as a ZT. I love my 300 till i stripped the screws but thats another story you all herd about. I really wanted the spec bump cause of the s30v blade but i got them confused but its still prety awesome. Looks like a good EDC. Is the lock up strong? Reliable?

The Spec is much older than ZT

Yes the lock is reliable.

I would test a stud lock against anything currently available and feel confident it will come through with flying colors. The rattle some of you are experiencing is the little bit of slack between the stud and the blade . This is necessary to level the lock and distribute the load evenly when the lock is engaged . I is very slight .004 but necessary for optimum lock function .
I am pleased you guys are loving the Bump. It is still my all time favorite folder design and the one I would choose if I ever had to take that trip to hell and back. It performs beautifully for almost every purpose. It does take a little getting used to because it is so different from the norm but everything has a purpose.

Its not as stout as the 0300 series but the 0200 and the grip is textured the exact same on the spec as the ZT series

Wrong again amigo.......similar idea, different pattern. The Starburst was rolled out on the Spec and the G10 Offset a while back. The 3-D checkering on the G10 on the 200 and the 300 are in more of a straight line pattern

Oh Sorry about that. They are very similar and by similar I mean almost the exact same. I knew someone would give me hell for saying that. I didn't even have enough time to edit my post to say almost the exact same.

spiral was not giving you hell socom. all he did was correct your statement. sometimes the timing of one post to the next gets in the way of a "hindsight edit". so please do not have the attitude of "i didnt even have time" or "i knew they would give me hell for this".

*edit* that said, spiral is the resident bump expert considering he has just about one of every one in existence lol

I finally got to play with the AL speed bump in person today (well, see in person anyway). It looks fantastic. I'm still of the mindset that the superb G10 handles on the spec make it worth the upgrade, though. Provided you like AOs, you'll love your new knife. Really excellent. The Bump line, considered together, is probably the best thing Kershaw has put out in folders.

That said, as much as I loved my dear old Blue Bump and the existing Spec Bump, I love the Offset's blade shape way more. It's too bad the world will never get to enjoy a low end model of the Offset. Maybe they'd call it the Onset.

just got the speed bump and its a sweet knife except 2 things 1 the lock the prevents you form opening the blade always engages when i put it in my pocket via pocket clip. Any thing i can do to fix that

2. It came super dull its hard to cut paper the blade has no damage on it but is super dull. And it does not look like this blade will sharpen easy with a regular flat stone. Any other type of sharpening set i should get like rods or something.

Thanks guys

1. Tighten down the lock using a T-6 torx driver. That should fix it.

2. You can send it to Kershaw, and have them put a sharp edge on it. Or, for the recurved blade, you can buy the spyderco sharpmaker (~$50) which is kinda spendy.

Kershaw will sharpen it for free.

The sharpmaker works great on that knife (and others). You can easily get it to whittle hair with the UF stones.

do you think the sharpmaker will be good all around sharpening set up because i need to get a new one anyone. I got the old school smith tri-stone right now and its so worn that the stones dip down in the center. Any thing good about a lansky, just herd about them not sure never used there products.

The sharpmaker is pretty much all I use. It works great with a minimal learning-curve. The ultra-fine ceramic leaves you with an amazing edge.

I also have some coarse stones for damaged edges/reprofiling and a home-made strop for finishing. These aren't really necessary, but they're good to have.
