I just ordered an Endura ZDP-189. I'd read good things about both the Endura and ZDP-189, had some extra cash, and figured it was time to upgrade my Camillus Army pocket knife (which is cool since it's from 1977, but that's about all it has going for it). This will be my first Spyderco knife... my first "nice" knife at all, actually. Does anyone that has the Endura ZDP-189 care to comment on it?

Have it, love it. It's my work knife. The steel is great, it holds an edge for a good long time, I haven't had any rust issues... It's great; not much else to say about it. I guess I wish it were ground thinner, either a higher grind or a full-flat grind.

You made the right choice.

You got yourself an excellent knife in an excellent steel. It will really impress you with it's performance. If you get the money saved up I would send the knife off to Tom Krein for a regrind to a full flat grind. The cutting ability of the knife will take a quantum leap with the regrind, but even with the factory saber grind you will enjoy all of the benefits of ZDP-189: great edge retention, great sharpness, and the ability to take extremely acute edges and hold that edge. You will definately enjoy that knife, it is just a very high quality knife in a top notch steel for a value price.

Cool stuff. Is ZDP-189 tough enough for use as a general purpose camping knife, btw? May want to get another D4 in ZDP, after being completely impressed by my current one.

Great knife just get yourself some diamond stones.

I have a zdp 189 delica. I used it for everything, including kitchen work, for something like 6-8 months before it needed to be resharpened. I took no special care of it and it never really picked up any permanent discoloration. I did have trouble sharpening it, but I'm not a skilled sharpener and just used the sharpmaker with the regular stones it comes with.

You should be happy, the endura is a better sized blade if you use it for anything beyond indoor/office guy type work.

I have had an Endura ZDP for over a year now and I really like it! I agree with everyone else here about the edge retention and it cuts really really sweet. I had a little bit of rust form on mine when I neglected it for a little bit but it cleaned right up and now you can't even tell there was anything wrong with it. This was my first REALLY nice knife that I ever purchased and I don't regret it one bit! Maybe this was the knife that planted the seed for my obsession that I have now???

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I decided to go with a Delica ZDP for now, since I don't really need a blade that big for cutting open boxes (I'm a supply clerk in the Army, so the majority of my cutting is boxes). I'm glad to hear I chose a quality knife.
