Just ordered my first CRK. Decided on an Umnumzaan

Let me start by saying I'm not a "knife guy". I stumbled into the forum looking for a decent knife for work, and CRK caught my eye. I'm ordered an Umnumzaan, and a knife from another maker to see which is best. I have to say I'm more excited about the CRK.
Best,
D

If you are not « a knife guy » a CRK can be disappointing at the beginning as they usually required a break in period
I love CRK but the first couple a weeks playing with a new one give my thumb some really hard time ;)

II never had an unumzaan, only 21s and inkosis

But it is really worth it
My large 21s and my small inkosis are my favorite

A drop point ‘Zaan was my first CRK and probably still my favorite!

I found the opening motion intuitive, but some do not.

There are lots of threads about breaking in one’s thumb simultaneously with one’s Umnumzaan, like this one.

Congrats on a great knife!

I had CRK thumb with my Umnumzaan the first 3 days. It took me about 48 hours to get the first flick out, even using my wrist. It was my first CRK. It now opens like a dream. So smooth and fast and easy to flick. Don't come to conclusions in the first few weeks. Give it a few cleanings and lubes the first few weeks. I did end up removing the clip from mine after a few weeks. It became massively more comfortable... my only gripe about the knife. That quiet lock wreaks of class. Good luck.

The beauty about a CRK is the more you use it the better it gets which leads to appreciation of the simplicity and build of the knife. That's what happened to me anyway.

Congrats on the purchase. I have one too. I'd recommend getting the CRK leather slip sheath for pocket carry.

Congrats! I found that deciding to buy a CRK was much easier than deciding upon which CRK to buy. First, I narrowed it down to either a Large Inkosi with an Insingo blade or a Large Sebenza with a Drop Point blade. Went to my authorized CRK dealer in town and got to handle both the Large Inkosi and the Large Sebenza with Drop Point blades. Unfortunately, they didn't have an Umnumzaan in-stock or I would've checked it out, too. I liked the Inkosi but I fell in love with the Sebenza. The hardest part for me was the handle, though. Do I go plain or do I upgrade to Micarta inlays or a unique CGG? Should I spring for a Damascus blade or stick with the standard S35VN? Do I want something I'll actually use or a collector item to drool on and little else? It took me well over a month to weigh all the pros and cons but what I ended up with was the nicest folding-knife I have ever owned, bar none.

Sebenza. But which of those upgrades did you go with?
