I was in the market for a fixed blade for EDC and came across the pics of the Active Duty. Sold! I just called and ordered one. THey said 4-6 weeks and possibly sooner. This is my first fixed blade and based on the pics it is a beauty:eek:

CAn anyone tell me anything about the leather sheath that comes with it? Originally I was considering something from Bud Nealy because of his MCS system. I will need to carry this when wearing a suit.

Thanks,

Art

A great choice !! The Active Duty is a great choice for an EDC.

As for the sheath, they are black, conceal about half of the handle and have a loop for your belt ! Hope that helps.

Also look at OnSite Tactical and Buy Brown sheaths for kydex, tip up, non suit carry!

Question, why doesn't Jerry put some of those sheaths on his site for the knives? It could be win win for everyone, the sheath maker, Jerry, and us......

Just my .02

Can anyone clarify the handle material. Is it Snake skin nukarta, canvas micarta or am I just stupid and are these the same thing?

Thanks!

The picture in the advertisement for the Active Duty shows a brown leather sheath, not black. I sure hope they dont ship with a black sheath.

Mine just fell out of the USPS box into my lap. The sheath is brown, very classic looking.

Kydex would be a hella-cool option for those of us who would like both types of sheath.

Jerry, any thoughts?

Don't worry about the sheath that is coming with it. The Active Duty ought to be an awesome EDC, proven blade design, and that awesome INFI! For carry with a suit you probably are going to need to get a different sheath made for it. though you might be able to carry the B.A.D. at the small of the back with the stock sheath. Think carefully about which side (Leftie or Rightie) sheath you get. I'm actually a rightie but ordered a leftie sheath so that it will carry edge forward.

lunumbra,
That is the exact reason I orderd left. To show respect for the blade you must cary edge forward. Actually I ordered right and left thinking of a dual S.O.B

Art, the A.D. is one of the sweetest knives I have ever held .

The sheath has a slight warp to it so when I pushed the blade back in, it slashed through the stitching. (My first post didn't make this clear at all, in fact it was more of a rant.)

Have no fear though, The sheath can be remolded.
Start by soaking it in hot water, put the AD back in, squeeze the sheath around the AD, take the AD out and dry it, then dry the sheath (Use a blow drier or let it air dry, an oven can be used but be very careful). The sheath can take a few days to completely dry if you choose to air dry it.

Edited to clear up what was originally posted :footinmou .

Although I love the Active Duty knife itself, I find myself less than thrilled with the sheath. Mine fits kinda loose, and generally just seems cheap.

Danbo, I'm kinda with you on this, but my sheath was amazingly tight.

My problem is I just don't like leather sheaths. IMO the only thing they are good for are aesthetics, they look good and don't scuff up the blade but will fall apart faster than anything else.

Edited to add: I feel for Jerry, sheaths are his nemesis, some like leather, others kydex, and the rest kydex lined cordura. It will never end  .

Art, Welcome to the Busse madness and congrats on making your first fixed-blade one of the best!!!

For IWB or SOB wear of a fixed blade, I concur with Wilco's recommendation of the On-Scene Tactical sheaths. On my small frame up to 7" blade knives (Busse Basic 7) carry IWB pretty comfortably with his sheaths. If you ALWAYS wear a jacket with the suit, a shoulder carry rig from Survival Sheath Systems should keep the AD handy for you under the jacket, either crossdraw or strong-side reverse grip deployment.

Here are four kydex sheath makers who do very high level workmanship and any of their products should serve you well. It's just a matter of whose style of carry best matches your needs.
