Just ordered my first GEC

I just pulled the trigger on a GEC #33 Conductor in smooth buffalo horn.
I'm a big peanut and swayback jack fan, and this will be my first non-Case traditional (not counting a million SAKs).
I was leery of the horn material as I have never felt it in the hand, but this pattern has been calling to me since introduced and I figured with the new year and everything, plus some Christmas money, now would be as good a time as any.

So...

Will I be happy when this little guy arrives?

I had a 33 in buffalo with the bail. The buffalo horn is smooth and polished. In my opinion, it looks like a vintage knife... probably even more so after the blades have a patina.

You'll have to tell us. ;)

I don't yet have a conductor, but I had a buffalo horn GEC and it was great.
I really liked it and I think you will as well, it seemed like it was good and durable.

I can't speak about the Conductor, since I never handled one myself, but if I have to trust the opinions on this subforum (and I do trust them), you will love your knife. In my months on this subforum, I don't think I recall a knife with better feedbacks than the Conductor (some knife may equal it though).
As for buffalo horn, I don't know about GEC's horn, but the material itself is very nice and one of my favourite (I'm partial to smooth handles).
Of course, taste is a very personal thing...so good luck with your knife :)

If you're not, send it to me. I know it would make me happy. ;):D

I think you will like it and I also think the Buffalo Horn was a good choice.

My Ebony Conductor was sold as an "EDC" version meaning that it has some cosmetic flaws (gap in the backspring and stain on the backspring) and it's a good little knife despite the flaws. A "non EDC" version could only be better.

If they had never brung out the #85 I'm pretty sure I would have gotten a #33 with out bail. Yes; unless something goes bad wrong some where I think your going to very happy!

I think you'll like it...I was a Case slipjoint only guy and took the plunge on a Conductor. It's a great knife, and afterwards I found myself buying another GEC!

I think you made a great choice the #33 is an excellent and very classy EDC choice I really love the model when I bought mine I went with the burnt stag.

I just received my first 33 as well. Its a great knife for pocket carry as it is very unobtrusive and the f&f on mine is very nice. I'd rate the pull to be somewhere around 4 or 5 and definitely not a "nail-breaker" like my GEC 2011 forum jack. Very nice knife indeed.

#33 is great choice. #33 is little big knife. Mine is 440C with American Elk. I am very sure you will be satisfied with it. I still haven't heard one negative thing about the pattern (if not counted that some don't like bails but since #33 has both version with and without bail...)

The waiting is the hardest part...

One thing I am interested in is the thickness of the blades. I've heard GEC's run on the thick side, and I like thin slicers. I've done photo searches and have not found any that compare blade spines to determine thickness.

In any case, I will post pics when it arrives. I upgraded my shipping so hopefully tomorrow or Sat...

The spines may be a tad thicker on some models. However, the blade just above the bevel is very thin. I've measured several at about 0.022". I've measured blades from several other makers at 0.028" or thereabouts. Makes a surprising difference. If interested in the mechanics of cutting with GEC blades, you might read this thread:
