ordered a 15" Ang Khola with wood handle.
I spoke to Yangdu this morning... a very nice and elegant lady.

As a gesture of respect for her service here, I'm sending her an Inova LED light (T2) and some spare batteries; I test them for manufacturers and have some laying around. I guess I'm creating a monster.... it'll be her first LED flashlight
Also sending her one of my favorite "field sharpeners" to try out: a Smith DCS4 (I picked some up at the Shot Show for 5 bucks each), we'll see how she likes it.

Any hints you guys & gals have for me would be welcome ;)

WELCOME!!!

the biggest hint i could give you is try to get inoculated against HIKV ( Himalayan Imports Khukuri Virus), and to pad your wallet very heavily to avoid withdrawal symptoms. Nice Choice on your first, it won't be your last!!!!!!!:jerkit:

Hi there Steve,
Great choice in that 15" AK, it will make your spring much more fun. For me, the best part about these wonderful blades is that they are tough users right out of the box, yet I can customize 'em to fit any of my personalities. Let it patina from use, keep it mirror polished, brown it, blacken it, make a new sheath, change the one you have to suit you, chopping sharp, shaving sharp...the list goes on. Check out The "Refinishing Wood Handles" post in the Cantina.
Nice of you to share the LED's and sharpeners with the fine Lady. Class act right off the bat, good on ye'.

Welcome and be well,
mark

Congrats on the AK, that is a very nice first HI:thumbup:
A treatment of boiled linseed oil on the wood handle every now and then isn't a bad idea.

Steven, welcome to the forums. Nice way to start off your collection. And I see you are Platinum already, good for you. I just upgraded again and went gold cause I couldn't afford Platinum. Nice to see the new guys supporting good causes.

I recommend that you test out your AK when you get it. It's pretty simple, get some heavy gloves and wack the spine, edge and sides of the knife against a stump or wood poll or something. That will show if there are any glitches in making. As some one else said today in another thread, doing so in a controlled enviroment will show if there are problems you don't want to happen in the field. Oh yeah, it's fun too. I tried breaking my first Khukuri a 15" AK not going to happen... :)

Enjoy and if you can, please post picts after it arives.

glad to be a member here. Even tho I'm new here' I'm not new to knives (and firearms ;)).
(Brief intro) 57 yrs old, grew up in San Diego in a Marine Corp family; dad was a D.I and the base martial arts instructor at El Toro. Currently living in Bensalem, Pa. I work in the financial market now as a wealth manager, but my hobbies have always tended toward weapons, martial arts and the generally catastrophic. Current fascination/area of expertise is catastrophic geology (earthquakes, landslides, volcanoes, tsunami) with a subspecialty in human survival & disaster preparation. Favorite book is Deep Survival, by Laurence Gonzales.

I am a serious Biblical Christian and work in the men' ministry of my church. Was a trainer with the Promise Keepers for several years.

Am currently on friendly terms with, if not friends with, Jeff Randall and Mike Snody (two GREAT guys). Met Joe Pardue, Chris Reeve, Bill Harsey and Ken Onion at the Shot Show this year. What a privilege.

My collection is currently comprised of several Chris Reeves, a Mil-Tac, 7 Bark Rivers, about 8 Benchmade, a bunch of Kershaw Ken Onion designs, two Zero Tolerance, 6 or so Cold Steel, a bunch of Spyderco, several Boker, several Becker, several Ontario-RAT, two of the new RAT cutlery, a bunch of SAK lockbacks and others, several Gerbers, Knives of Alaska, a bunch of Mora, several SOG, two Harsey-Lone Wolf, and assorted others.

Great to be a part of this excellent forum!! Any help I can be to any of you, just ask me !!

Congratulations! I purchased my first HI Khukuris about four months ago and haven't looked back. I'm so enamored by their blades that I have gotten beyond the khukuris (but will still buy them) and looking into the swords.
Good luck and I hope your wallet can sustain the damage ;)

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd just add to this one. I just received my first HI Khukuri. Last week, I sent an email to Yangdu for a 15 inch 20 ounce Ang Khola by Yuvraj Kami, which is exactly what I've been waiting for. I had been watching the forums carefully, and I saw this one pretty early.

Not early enough though. I was too late. But Yangdu, perhaps feeling compassion towards a poor soul without a single HI Khukuri, offered to sell me a similar one for the same price. Obviously, I accepted her kind offer.

My Khukuri arrived in the mail today, and I opened it with the glee of a child on Christmas day. Needless to say, it's a beauty. Obviously hand made, and obviously high quality. It's raining today in sunny Florida, but I couldn't resist the urge to test it out. So I went out back and suck it into a piece of wet, fallen wood. Not the best thing to test it on, but it sunk in nicely. My cheap Cold Steel khukuri just bounces off.

I have yet to fully test the khukuri, but for $65, I can't imagine purchasing a better khukuri. Actually, I can't really imagine purchasing a better knife for $65. A handmade, high-quality, tough-as-nails knife for $65?

No wonder people here own so many. :)

Congrats and welcome Steve and Siaharok:D:thumbup:

Enjoy your new khuks:)
