Well, I finally did it. After "lurking" around the HI forum, countless hours studying the HI website, and several pleasant e-mails with Uncle Bill...I just ordered a 12" Sirupati. I believe that it will well serve my current particular purpose, and will no doubt serve as jumping off point for future khukuri acquisitions...

(I fear that I may have REALLY started something here...)

Started something or just got swept up in it - same thing. You did, however, pick a great blade to start it off with. If you enjoy yours as well as I have mine, you're HOOKED!! And don't listen to any of that "research" hooey - hooked is hooked, by any name

Hope you love it, T.S. I've really fallen in love with my sirupatis . . . such a beautiful and functional blade shape. I'm almost afraid to get any others for fear that I may like them better.

But I'll get over that.

As soon as you get your kukri out of its sheath, give it a polish, and just stare at it.....well, that'll be it.
Welcome to the club, and welcome to the strange longing we've all caught.

That is just how I got started - with a 12" Sirupati - though I should confess that my love affair with khuks started long ago, I just took some time to realize that.
Now even the tantos I make look a bit like khukuris!
I look at my 18th Century and ask myself if is there a way out of this... I mean, at least after all my orders arrive, including the one I just got on E-bay...

Hello, Terry

I got a large metal handled piece from a dealer in England. more expensive than I though it would end up at around US$ 80,00 with shipping but it looks quite respectable. This was the first auction I won, of the few I got in lately.
I see quite a few good deals on e-bay all the time - including many military pieces, wich are my main interest now - but have been unable to get that great deal we all expect from an auction. I keep trying, though.

T-Sarge,,, Warning!!

Control your anticipation to the greatest extent possible. Both the mail carriers on my route are on Prozac after only five blades.

I finally had to open the Malla in front of the older one, and he wanted the website. He's lurking around here somewhere, and won't be able to resist a buy much longer (will you, Dick?) Hehehehh
