I have a ZT 0561 that I love, but it's just a little bit too big for everyday carry especially with my smallish hands. I was thinking about waiting for the 566, but it looks like it may be almost a year before that's out, so was also thinking about a 550. The only problem with the latter is that the blade is a little fat-looking and it's a non-flipper. Then I heard the rave review of the Southard by jdavis882 and saw that one source had one left for $230 so I figured, why wait? I'm actually really looking forward to this. It has a blade profile not unlike ZTs 777, which is a really great multipurpose shape. More importantly, I expect it will fit my hand better than the ZT 561, and why not?

So I guess that makes me another person with a hole in my blade?

Thats awesome man, that may well be my next folding knife purchase. Congrats!

That's awesome man, and that's actually a pretty good price. I think you'll love it. Make sure to post back here when you get it in your hands!

Almost exactly what I paid for the 561 which is sort of why I went for it. I hesitated because it's not made in the US, but Taiwan is sort of on our side, so WTH?

Hehe your first spyderco..........lol

There like chips....you can't have just one.

I love mine, it came in Wednesday. Makes a great edc and I can say the blade shape is my favorite I have used. Also the steel is a winner.

Congrats Freewheeling, I am a user of both ZT and spyderco's, the latter being my first EDC knife a loooong time ago. I wanted a southard but just can't get passed the blade shape.

Keep us posted on what you think about it.

You will love the southard. I have gad mine for about a month it is still very sharp and I have not held back while using it. It really is a great knife.

Congrats on the purchase! I have yet to put mine down in the past two weeks since I received it. I've owned a good number of different Spyderco's over the past year and this one IS my favorite...for now ;-). Pics once it arrives please

Congrats on your new purchase, good luck hanging onto any extra money now. The Southard is on my short list as well, due largely to the many positive things I have read about it. Also, Spyderco and flipper, what could be better?

I guess one of the advantages of a Spyderco in an office environment is that they just don't look all that much like a knife. Somehow the round curves softens the look. Not sure it applies to the Southard, though. Maybe a little.

(Saw a video of a young girl doing knife reviews and she called the concept "sheeple-friendly." LOL)

Yeah, unfortunately for me I work in a secured environment and have to check all my knives at the door when I get to work. Stupid if you ask me, since I am IT and could do way more damage from my PC (not to mention there are sharp knives in the kitchen). Anywhere in public though having a less aggressive looking knife is generally a good thing, especially if you actually need to take it out and use it.

'Tis why I always pair off my larger, primary blade with either a small knife, or, more typically, a small multi-tool.

Many won't be willing to EDC even that much stuff, though.

Been thinking about one of those myself congrats I have to wait till my preorder para 2 gets in before I can pull the trigger.

Did you order the lightning run with the same steel that's in the Southard? (I wish they'd give in some kind of mnemonic that's easier to remember.)
