SIFU1A,

Just Remember the Gunting's Golden rule: No Kinetic Openings on one's thigh. Your leg is large, instead of the blade clearing skin like it would on your forearm, it bites into nice juicy thigh meat.

-Just in case you haven't heard this warning.

Sifu1 - just before you change your BF name to Gunting1 ....get the tapes, get the trainer or else you WILL be sorry....

The Gunting (like all Spyderco knives) comes sooo sharp - and it will bite you if you don't know what to do....and do get the great holsters Frank Olsen of SkunkWorks is making for it..

Good luck on your wise choice...now all you have to do is go to a seminar and get GUNTED...

hi ya'll - thanks for the info, i know these things will bite you - am going to get the tapes this month, and the drone ASAP, maybe a couple of wks - i wish bram would come to tx, he's been to houston before, he needs to come back - like i said i will buy the beer AND sushi lol, i dont know if i'll be changing my SN though, at least for now - i am still gonna carry my sifu untill i get some training, bought the gunting for carry at work, where the sifu, while acceptable is a little big, and the pressure point techniques might come in handy - i work w/violent repeat offenders on intensive supervision parole for TDCJ - so.......

SIFU1A,
I received my Gunting yesterday and am quite happy with it. The ergos on it are incredible, both for impact/pressure point and blade applications...this is one well designed self defense tool. It feels solid as a rock, the compression lock is great, it just floats from one grip position to another, mine came scary sharp...there's just nothing at this point that I DON"T like about the knife. I can see a number of Kyusho and Kubaton techniques that should work quite well with the Gunting...I'll soon find out!

I think that it will serve you very well in PO work as a low-profile/high-impact protective device. You'll like it! :)

A couple of safety tips for those whio might be interested. First, do get the tape, "Spyderco Introduces The Gunting by Bram Frank". It should be required for any who buy the knife, as it is a quick familiarization with the knife, but, more importantly, it shows you all of the things NOT to do with it, such as kinetic openings on your leg, and why. Secondly, I strongly urge that you keep the pivot screw tighter than on yourt average Spydie, because the "horn" on the blade has a tendency to catch on your hand as you reach into your pocket and then pull our hand out, thereby starting to open the blade in your pocket. Thjis happens only if the pivot is not tight enough. Mine is now just tight enough to stop that and still be able to open smoothly and quickly.

BTW, I do not carry my Gunting as a martial arts device, but as a utility blade for use in a city where the blade limit is 3". I have arthritic hands and the ergonomics are very easy for me.

Hello,

the Gunting is really a creative tool for martial artists, Mac Gyver's fan and Mythomen like myself ;) !!!
But what is absolutly addictive is confortable handle when the blade is open.
I calls it the "Wolverine of folders".
cheers

JM

It sure is a very fine knife! Glad you got it back Nemo! Thanks for letting me try it out. I used Nemo's Gunting as a utility knife for a few months. I only sharpened it once, and that was out of respect for Nemo;) the knife was not REALLY dull:cool: . However I prefer to return a knife in a condition that I would like to get one back in. One heck of a knife, another on the list to get:eek: !

Cheers!

Wayne,

the gunting is sharper now than when I sent it to you !

My friend, it's the third time you are amazing me with your resharping's knack !

cheers,

JM

Cheers Nemo, you are too kind;) !

It is amazing what the Spyderco Ultra Fine Benchstone can do when it is cleaned and used with a gentle hand. It works even better, when I am listening to Metallica at the same time
 !

That CPM 440V requires respect, practice and an almost religious experience to get it just so:p ! The results are... Wow, I am speachless! Lets just say that CPM 440V is rather good!

Glad you liked my efforts Nemo! I try my best.:D
