Got my Mom an izula in tactical pink for her birthday. She is not really a fan of deadly/useful weapons, but I am trying to ease her in. ;) Convincing her that non-kitchen knives are no different as far as being dangerous than a tactical or survival knife was a difficult task, but she now seems excited at the prospect of having an izula of her own after seeing and handling the two that I have. I told her that she can use it as a kitchen knife (it will be much better than the stainless crap she currently uses) and that she should carry it in her purse because she'll never know when she might need it. She is still having a hard time getting used to the fact that I own handguns, but she has started to accept it and even handle some of them (I got to get her out to the range sometime soon). Here's to changing minds about guns 'n' knives when used responsibly and appropriately.

My mom recently told me about the first time I told her I was interested in knives as a hobby. I am shocked I did not remember this, as I normally remember this type of thing. Anyway, back when I was 10 years old apparently I went to her, and said "Mom, I want to collect knives, give me five hundred dollars". Needless to say, I didn't get the five hundred dollars. HOWEVER, she didn't mind the knife collecting, as I regularly shot guns and handled them. She did end up taking me somewhere to buy a knife. It was a second Buck 110. She told me if I could keep this one in better shape than my first, for one month, she would surprise me with a knife. I did, and she got me a Cold Steel Recon Scout in Carbon V.

What has that to do with moms? Well, she didn't know anything about quality in knives, and still doesn't. Her kitchen knives are just some cheapo knives she got at Meijer. So, I decided last year I would get her to like knives of higher quality. I have bought her some decent kitchen knives, and she loves them. She also told me that I shouldn't be buying her knives, as I like them much more than she does. Anyway, I recently bought her an assisted opening rainbow leek for Christmas, and she takes that thing everywhere she goes. She also makes sure that she shows everyone who she can this one knife.

If you do it right, she will take to the liking of knives, and eventually be asking for more of them. (Yes, my mom saw the Pink Izula and wanted one right away. As well as a few other knives that have colors she likes on them) I will get her one, but when she least expects it. She will than be turned from knife-know-nothing to knife-know-some. I have successfully transformed my mom, into a knifenut.

Thanks for that story game. My Mom actually bought me my first knife too (although reluctantly). I was probably 14 or so and she bought me my first lockback blade, a gerber ez-out at Bob's department store. Funny, lookin' back huh?! :D

Work...I own two izulas as I stated in my first post. Must've overlooked that.

Surely there's room for another Izula. They're small and don't take up much room.:D

I'll be picking up a third one myself in the near future.
