Just ordered...

Sounds like winner to me. I’m sure you will love it. Now the waiting game begins.

Yup! I hate waiting. How does their S30V compare to say, spyderco? Also, is the elk usually NICE or is most of it just smooth and boring? Lastly, does the nickel take any care? I don't know why i chose to spend almost $200 on a buck 110..... but i hope to get attached to it. The only thing i think may keep me from it is not being one handed opening and not being pocket friendly.

If you want one handed opening a kwik thumb stud will work fine.I have 3 112's from the custom shop and I like them all.

I thoroughly enjoyed & do miss on occasion a leather sheath strapped to my belt. I would open my 112 by holding the blade on top & gently "yo-yo jerking?" the knife in a downward motion. Of course seeing someone for the first time thumb flick a Cold Steel Recon 1 ruined it all. ;)

sounds like this one.....15747298376856561234429332864114.jpg

yours is gonna be a great knife.

I like bucks s30v a bit better. I have many of both brands. spyderco is good on heat treat and s30v, but I find the buck holds the edge a bit longer......havent done testing just my impressions from my use.

my elk is smoother, but a fella here has one with rougher and more interesting depth. I like both types.

Copy cat! I have a feeling i'll carry it a lot. One question..... where i carry my sheathed knives/multitool at work, out of work i carry a... firearm. What can i get to carry the knife where it won't be in the way but accessible that still looks nice?

yep.:)

good question, but........i'm a southpaw shooter and carry firearm left strong side. so only extra mags could get in the way of the 110 sheath. which I use right handed at 4oclock and carry as such.

not sure what's out there that solves your carry need.....

@Makael A custom sheath maker here.
He does good work.
There are a few threads showing his craft and skill here in the Buck sub-forum.
I'm sure he spends some time over in the sheath makers sub-forum as well.

I don't know what his turn-around time is from order to delivery is or what his rates are. (I'm sure his rates are reasonable.)

He might check in here since I tagged him.

Have you considered changing to a vertical or horizontal shoulder holster or a small of back holster for your pistol/revolver?
I've carried both ways, ("Government" size 1911) both are comfortable.
My shoulder holseter was a vertical carry.
I ain't very wide front to back. A horizontal carry would have "printed" front and rear under my jacket.

I carry through the week an h&k vp9, m&p 2.0 full size & m&p shield. If you have any suggestions on more comfortable carry please share! I carry IWB or OWB on occasion around 4 o clock

The most comfortable carry I used was the shoulder holster and the small of back.
I shan't say no more 'cause the moderators might will get upset about me not talking about knives.

I’m so used to carrying my 110 on my right side, I can’t carry a gun there. I’ll end up reaching for my gun to open a package. 30 years of muscle memory can’t be undone. So I usually pocket carry a gun or left side Iwb works. I can shoot lefty.

I pinch the blade open then open it on my leg. One motion and It happens fast. I’ve never cut myself. If you don’t want to use you leg you can use whatever you are going to cut or the table.

Say no to thumb studs and spydie holes.

Three questions for you seasoned guys...

1. If I leave the knife in the tan leather sheath, will it tarnish like the brass ones?

2. Does nickel take any maintenance?

3. I know the 110 is a hunting knife, how do you clean it or sanitize it without damaging it? Luber? Anything you SHOULDN'T do it with?

I have the same exact custom 110!
Picked it up a few months ago when someone posted about the S30V drop point blade, had to have one to match up my 124 and 301 forum elk knives.
Great knife but the finger grooves make it a little too small for my long fingers.
So I ordered another with no grooves and the S30V clip point.
Fits better and pairs up nicely with the other 2 in the set.
My only complaint with all of these are the edge grinds.
All of them were just terrible, shocking almost for a custom shop blade.
So I boxed them all up and shipped to REK for a pro sharpening.
Perfection now!
At some point I'll get one of these 110s on the exchange before I decide to carry one or the other...but they're so pretty I can't decide.

1.) yes it will.

2.) just polish once in a while, if ya want to. remove/wipe off/clean off corrosive contaminants. things of that nature.

3.) lots of different methods folks use. I wont retype them. searching should find and use your own judgement. not all are good idears. some are. here is what buck says.....

Assuming you placed your order recently, you can go to the Buck website and open up a "Chat" session with one of the representatives. Give them your order number and describe the type of Elk that you prefer. The representative will add a note to your order stating your preference.

I did that with this 503 a few months ago. I requested lightly colored Elk and this is what they built for me. I had a little lighter color in mind but I'm happy with the outcome.
