Just ordered my first RAT knife (Izula in OD green) and am chomping at the bit to get my hands on it. Thanks to Mike, I finally got in touch with someone who could help me. I have just one question for Mike Or Jeff: I plan to use this knife as my EDC and as my main camping knife. Will these knives stand up to baton slaps with wood thru wood for making tinder and kindling? How rough can I be with this knife. I want it to be tough, and withstand the daily chores, but if there is something I need to watch out for or avoid doing please let me know. Thanks guys and GOD bless.:D

If you pick up the latest issue of Tactical Knives, May 2009 there is a good review by Rueben (bearthedog) on their trip to Peru and a pic of btd using the Izula to do some batoning for just what you described.

You can ask Mike and Jeff and they will tell you the Izula did great when it came to fire prep, batoning and whittling with comfort and ease. It sure is a pleasure to write about knives that I really believe in and trust!

Article photo outtakes!

Thanks for the help with the questions. So, if this knife breaks at all they will replace it? If that is the case, I will not buy any other brand of knife from this day forward! When I get it, I will put it through some pretty tough situations- I PROMISE!!! I will take pictures but will need help in how to put them on here for all to see. Keep postin' pictures, it gives me ideas for ways to test this puppy.

Yup, best warranty in the business. Even if you break it on purpose, you'll be taken care of, but that would make you a jerk.;)

I wouldn't intentionally damage the knife or do things with it that a knife shouldn't do and then try to return it, that would create bad juju.

But if you break it, you'll be taken care of.

IF you break it. Big IF. They are some tough knives, and with most use, they will not break. Serious abuse they might, but I doubt doing anything outside of severe abuse will break them.

It will handle batoning without any problem at all. And if you did break it the warranty has got you covered.

We had one guy already break the tip off of an Izula. I told him to send the knife back to Shon and we would get a replacement out ASAP. Haven't heard back from him.

Good choice of blade. I have yet to baton my pink Izula, but I know they can take it.

Just picked up a copy - so now I just have to wait until lunch to read it. I imagine they put this knife thru more than I would, so I really am not worried about it breaking or anything.

Just read the article in "Tactical Knives - May 2009" and it makes me want my Izula to get here NOW!!!! Everything I read seems to just elevate Mike and Jeff and their products higher and higher. You guys have alot to poke your chest out about. I dont even have my knife in hand yet, but " Great job guys". Thanks for offering an AMERICAN-MADE product with such a great design, all around versitile knife with an appealing look.

I've been EDCing mine and it's one tough knife! Beat it up! I guarantee you won't be disappointed with its performance.
