Just picked up a Scuba Demo--a question

New to SOG knives, Scuba is my first, and I have a Seal Pup elite in the mail.
The Scuba Demo is an absolutely gorgeous knife! Once I got it home I ran across the hair on my leg (I am part sasquatch) and it shaved like a razor. I have never had a knife that sharp out of the box before. I then dug through my camping stuff looking for rope to cut with the serrated edge: one swipe and it's through.

Now, the sheath. I like the shape and the fit, but the sharpening stone pocket reminds me too much of the $15 "survival" knives I had as a kid. Also the position of the strap allows the serrated edge to run along it as you draw the knife if you're not paying attention.
On the SOG website under accessories there is a leather sheath listed with availability for various knives. I really like the look of the one pictured (not sure what knife that is), dark brown leather with a flap and strap over the hand guard. Is the sheath like that for all the knives listed there, or do they send the stock sheath for those knives that came with leather in the first place?

thanks guys,
Bill

When ordering the leather sheath we send the one appropriate for the knife indicated on the order form. So you would get the same sheath you currently have for the SCUBA. I think the brown leather sheath you are talking about is for the Hunter Revolver.

Hope this helps.

do you guys do one for the seal 2000 chris? or will the nite tech sheath fit it?

I too would like to have a nice leather sheath for the 2000. As it sits right now is too Ramboish to have it out, that's why she's sitting in the house most of the time.

Not sure that we have one that will fit the SEAL Knife but I'll try and check today and see if I come up with anything.

Bill,

don't you mess around one bit, you send that sheath straight-away on down to me, I know just what to do with it. I have a WWII M3 Trench Knife that will feel right at home in it. Perfect.

OK, now that I have that out of my system, WOW DUDE !! What an awesome SOG to be your first !!!!!!!!

Cheers,

Carl

p.s. SOG does have a knack for makin' 'em sharp .... my Bowie and SEAL 2000 were similarly delivered the way you described your Scuba. I'd never been around any kind of steel that sharp, and it made me more than a bit nervous.

double p.s. SIRGALANT .... where did you find that awesome avatar ?? Way Cool !!!!

Mr. Pig Hunter,

Yeah, I went big for my first SOG. I have been eyeing the Scuba in my local outdoor sports store catalogue for 2 years now, something about the shape of the blade and handle drew me to it. When I finally held it I had to have it.
I can't wait to take my revenge on the rope I was using to tie tarps with camping last year with it :D

as for the sheath, I cut the stone holder off. I can live with the stitching holes until I find a nice brown leather replacement.

Hey brightb,
While it wasn't my first SOG purchase, the SCUBA is probably my favorite. Those serrations are great on rope, as you found out, but don't be afraid to use them on wood either. I used mine to cut down some small saplings in the yard when I couldn't find a proper saw and it worked great.

Yup, definitely need serrations for rope cutting :D - short of the sharpness demos...

serrations can help with rope-cutting chores ..... even if they're found on the upper clip as an after-market do-it-yourself home project.

Cheers,

Carl
