Here are the specs:

<blockquote>
I would like it to be made out of new stock spring steel by Bura. If Bura is excessively busy, then I will accept a khukuri from the next best kami. The specs follow:

- 18" overall WW-II style Khukuri

- Polished steel habaki-style bolster

- Polished steel 'old style' scrolled pommel cap that is flush with the handle (ie. does NOT overlap the handle and subsequently cut into the palm of my hand when the knife is in use). In other words, what is depicted in the pictures on your website

- Buffalo horn handle

- Steel scabbard tip
</blockquote>

Nothing but the best. This will be a work khukuri to replace my Cold Steel light Ghurka khukuri, as the thin blade sticks FAR too much for my liking.

I'm guessing that it will still be $145. I don't see how making the bolster and pommel cap out of steel would make it more expensive. I'm not asking for any scroll work, or fullers, or silver ware...

Sounds like it will be a keeper.

Now your next decision is whether to move to Saudi Arabia and become a Muslim and start building up your harem , or rural Utah and become a polygamist Mormon.

Khuks are like lovely ladies. Some days it's a blue eyed blonde you become obsessed with, the next day a raven tressed beauty, the third a brown eyed brunette, and then this green eyed redhead has you the blood flow to your brain cut off. And we haven't even gotten to the eurasian types. No way you can be faithful to just one.

The only new spring steel stock that's available is made in India and I doubt that the kamis would make a khukuri out of the stuff. If we have to import the steel from Germany or the US we are looking at a $500 knife.

Take the MB recycled. It's just about as good as virgin stock.

I've sent email saying the same thing.

Actually it may be even better than new. Depends on whether MB has it made to specs or just buys springs from a well known vendor.
And with MB's quality I would imagine that there are definitely specs on the steel that goes into the springs.
You dayumed sure wouldn't want a spring failure anyway, And especially in some of the torturous areas that MB trucks are worked in.
Makes for the world's finest khukuris!!!!:D :D :D :D

The spring steel used by MB is definitely made to spec. After years and years of seeing pics of the trucks in that part of the world, you notice that most of the big ones are MB, and they are always overloaded, and have signs of great age and much use. Steel doesn't "wear out", even though these springs are overworked for thousands of miles. The forging process re-aligns and packs the composition, and the finished blade is probably tougher than if made from "new" steel. The older kamis know what can be worked to a desired finish, and as Uncle has said elsewhere, MB spring steel is preferred, Saab steel is considered good, but second, and steel from the Japanese trucks is avoided.
