Just talked with John through emails. Got my order in for a "fire kit". The details are Black micarta handles, O1 steel, belt loop on sheath and misch fire starter. Now I cant wait for october to get here, not just for hunting season, but a new knife lol. Ill post pics of it once I get it.

Just great, as soon as I cure black rifle disease, I go catch CRK and JK disease. There is no hope. :D

Welcome to the club! It won't be your last. I swear every time I get one I already have a new one on my mind!

Welcome! I have 8, by far the greatest amount from any one maker. John makes tough, affordable products and as you doubtless know, is a great guy to deal with too!

Thanks for the welcome guys. As funds allow, Ill probably see if john can make me an EDC fixed with a 3" blade and high ride sheath.

Can anyone explain the differences between O1 and 1095 steel to me? And what rockwell hardness are your knives?

The only difference I`ve found between O1 and 1095 is that the O1 seems to resist rusting a little better. I just offer both to keep the customers happy. My RC is 57-58, not as hard as some, but easier to sharpen when it`s needed.

Hmmmmm....... A three inch blade EDC with a high ride sheath? I don't know if John has ever made anything like that?

Wait.....I think he might have.;)

Maybe,if you order one, mine won't be the only one John has built.:D

John's wonderfull perfect creation..........

Congrats on your first order, Machine26. I'm sure it won't be your last! John makes amazing knives, has a short turnaround time, and his customer service is second to none. I also have a fire kit on order, and I'm really looking forward to it.

What kind of features are you looking for in your 3" fixed blade?

All the best,

- Mike

Nice looking knife Todd.

Looking for a knife pretty much like Todd's except black micarta handles and if possible the tang to extend about 3/8" or so past the handle scales. Maybe have the sheath ride just a bit higher with a loop for a fire steel and small pocket for a stone or some such.

Thanks. It doesn't look like that anymore. It really is my EDC and gets used everyday. It is getting a great patina.

I think you are going to love your fire kit. Although my son's little kit has a slightly differant knife ,a little larger than the one John makes with the kit. Johns workmanship is great. And the pocket sheath really came out nice.

Holds the knife and steel very well, yet you can push the sheath off with your thumb. Letting the sheath stay in your pocket when you draw the knife.

Todd, I saw that thread, its a good looking knife too, especially the handles. What length blade is on it?

Welcome M-26. His knives are sure addictive, You are going to enjoy them a lot.:D

Jim - seems Im picking up too many addictions lately :p

Todd - do you know what length blade is on the fire kit knife?

Don't know. John listed the firekit knife with an OAL of 4".

I have a tiny little ultra mini nessmuck from John with an OAL of 4 1/8". That knife has a blade of 1 1/2". I would guess the firekit knife to be about the same?

My son's LDK has an OAL of 4 3/4".

Looks like it has a 2" blade and 2" handle to me, who knows, reckon Ill find out when I get it lol.

Im typing all the specs I want for an EDC knife and its sheath in a notepad file right now. Maybe after I get this lil fire kit and a CRK mountaineer 1 Ill be able to make it happen.

What blade style is that on your EDC knife? It looks like a spear point to me but not quite. Looks like a hybrid of a CRK shadow IV and becker crewman.

This is an in hand shot of my 4 1/8" ultra mini nessmuck. If Johns kit knives are half as nice as this, you all are getting great deals.

The blade on my AK EDC is John's drop point. Does ressemble a sort-of spearpoint.

I hope theyre at least half as nice :p

Im not the best with all the different blade shapes, handle materials, etc. Dont get me wrong, Im no noob to knives, but figuring out all this custom stuff sure is complicated at times. First "hand made" or "semi custom" knife I ever bought was a CRK shadow IV almost a month ago and when I first held/used it I was shitting in high cotton. But now that Ive found this forum and actual custom knives, Im like a kid in a candy store. It also seems that every maker has a different version of standard blade styles.

I wonder if John would make a sable shaped blade? 3 - 3.5 inch sable blade, pommel about 1/4" longer than handle scales, and scales made from the same material/wood as your boy's knife. That would rock.
