Hi all, I just wanted to let you see the result of some work I did on a Stiff Kiss I have. I only wish CRKT had made one of decent steel like ATS-34.
Pictures at: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=130364&a=956330&p=13838306 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=130364&a=956330&p=13838307 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=130364&a=956330&p=13838309
Sorry they are not to good but I'm learning.

Modifications made:
* Gold TiN coated 2 microns thick
* decorative cord wrap with 2mm black nylon cord ending in diamond knot.
* The plastic (not Kydex) sheath modified so it's very small I offered the belt attachement possibility but have the clip and chain/cord neck carry left.

The next one is going to be satin polished and black TiN coated (3-4 microns)

Keep sharp, Bagheera

Nice work. I've been thinking I should grind down the sheath on mine. The handle wrap is nice too. The bare handle needs something.

Hi Bagheera, nice pictures. I had cut down the sheath on my Nimravus cub and like it for front pocket carry now. Don't know why I didn't think of cutting the Stiff Kiss too. Your cord wrap turned out better, think I'll do mine again-thanks for the ideas. If you didn't see it in the other thread the catalog is on the way.

Hi Bagheera,
Great WORK!
I didn't see if you left the coating go all the way to the blade's edge on the flat side.
Does it?
You know, Buck runs the TiNi all the way down to the edge and sharpens the other side and they acheive some rather amazing results in edge retention with the TiNi becoming a part of the edge.
I've been wanting to try this myself.

Bagheera! Nice work! Love the handle wrap and coating. Wish i could send you mine and do something about it but i've already F**k up the edge with bad sharpening skills. (test bed for Lansky...)
Anyway, Keep up the good work!

Hi all, nice hearing from you and thanks for the compliments.

Misque, the TiN coating is done under vacuum and coats the entire blade including the edge. The person that does this for me also does it on carpet cutting blades (the throw away stanley knive blades) and putting a 1 micron coating on the blade keeps the blade as sharp as it was uncoated, but according to the professional carpet man keeps the blade about 10-15 times longer sharp then uncoated blade.

If you have it TiN coated ask for a 3-4 micron thick coating and sharpen only the chisel side (this is what Buck Knives seems to do) and I lap both sides on my grandfathers leather strop, first on the side coated with some green polishing paste (grid 1000 ?) then on the uncoated leather side.

The cord wrapping is not difficult although I had 3 blisters afterwards because the 2 mm nylon was hard on my hands and one needs to keep pressure on the wrapping.

Thanks again for the compliments.

Keep sharp, Bagheera

WOW!
You've taken a so-so steel and turned it into a real edge holding contender Bagheera.
Congrats, Man!
I think this might be a "Functional Upgrade of the Year" Award winner!

The Stiff K.I.S.S. is second only to Livesay in the cocealed knife value market, their great knives.

Bagheera:

Great job. I really like how it looks.

Just got mine and am so happy with it. I bought the MDP version and it's very sharp out of the box. It's really worth the money for.
