As the title says I'm just playing around, but I wanted everyone's opinion. This pic is directly off of my scanner with a towel layed over the knife.
The blades don't really have all the patina that the scan seems to show.
Just trying to get some idea of the quality of the scan. I was pretty impressed that the detail on the shield and blade where it's stamped Case came out as clear as it did.

My daughter has a digital camera that I hope to play with soon, then some khukuri pix will be posted.
But that's after I build the light box I need to improve the quality of pix taken with the camera.:)

The knife is as you can see a Case hunter friction folder. I bought this knife in Yucaipa California around 1977 for $19.00, quite an investment, no?;)

Very clear and clean on WebTV...er..MSNTV :D Are all three blades finished the same shade of green?

Bro on my unit the blades come out blue to blue/black and with only 2 blades.:)
Just goes to show you how MSNTV still lies to their account holders, the name change didn't help.:p:eek:;)

....either MSN or you...little of both I guess. The pic is crystal clear, and as you said, would benefit from the light box diffusing light to all surfaces more evenly, but there is nothing wrong "as is". AC is having a going out of business sale - you might check with him.

Hey Yvsa, The pix looks great, I was thinking about trying that very thing. I didn't know what would happen. The knife is very clear although a little dark. The blades look blue and black, or green if you close your left eye and squint the right while wearing sunglasses. I use Internet Explorer and Earthlink. Nice experiment.

nice knife I've got the schrade-walden version with the simulated stag handle it's almost identical.

The towel is coming through great on my end. The blade looks a little dark though. The handle looks very clear. Nice pic, and thanks, I love seeing pix of knives (or scantily clad women ;) ,sorry had to write it).

Yvsa,

You can use the photo editing software we were working with to lighten up or change contrast on your pix before uploading them. This'll give you a chance to make a darker picture brighter.

I just sharpened it a bit and increased the gamma.

And if you should come across someone who's smarter than you, don't blame them for it.

Yvsa,

That is one of the most common ways of capturing images of knives I guess... in fact, it could put us poor photographers out of a job. Another nice piece of cloth to try is an arm or backrest cover from a couch or lazy boy :)

Before you build youself a light box... do you have any big (5 gallons or bigger) plastic jugs... kind of like milk comes in?? If so, just cut a hole in the top and place a knife inside. Set it out in the sun and you'll have an evenly lit knife to shoot a pic of (through the hole you cut). The only problem with this is our Khuks are so dang big... but it'll work for smaller knives.

Another cheap way to do it is to buy a couple of hoola hoops, and some white translucent material (like parachute material). Make yourself a frame out of the hoola hoops (forming a dome) and cover it with the material... you'll have to cut a couple of holes in the material and stitch, tape, or do something to the material to keep it from fraying. Leave enough material to go under (but don't fasten it).

All you do is place your khuk on the peice of mateial that isn't fastened, then put the dome over the top... outside in the sun, or under any light source really. Shoot through the holes you cut (at different heights on the dome for different angles.

There you have an inexpensive light dome :)

Blues I didn't even think about that, obviously.;)
I did manage to get the size down from the 2 foot blades folder I had to begin with. One like that would be cool but the friction springs would never allow me to open it.:)

Alan thanks, sounds like a good idea, but I need some more detailed instructions if I'm gonna do it. Sounds like it would be easier to store than the one I had in mind, although it would store flat and could be put up against a wall behind a piece of furniture, can't go underneath because I have wood for Flutes and accesories stored under the couch and chair.:)
Like I've told Blues, "My poor little brain only absorbs so much at a time and that isn't much."
I do a lot better if I can see how something is done, except in the case of my computer.
My daughter shows me something, then tells me how to do it, then lets me do it under her instructions and then lets me do it on my own a couple of times.
You think I would have it down, but before she can get home I've got her on the phone again saying, "HELP!!!!!!!" :D
But I am making progress albeit slowly.:)

Hang in there, Yvsa. you'll find that the more you learn to do, the more you can foul up.

( ps: the Hayl I don't blame guys like Blues for being smarter than me. )

That isn't really a friction folder, is it??? Looks like an ordinary slipjoint. Maybe I should explain the terminology ... a friction folder has no spring; it's just friction that holds the blade open or closed. They usually have an extension to the tang like a straight razor, to help keep it from folding on you....

Geez, make some people a super moderator and they start getting technical.

Not a bad point, however. Thanks for the clarification.

Yvsa,
If you use a darker material, that will probably trick the scanner into brightening up the image of the knife.

I had one just like it I inherited from my paternal grandfather. It was covered with patina from long use, skinning deer and cutting plugs of tobacco. The bolsters were nicked and dented from chipping rocks- my grandfather was a Rock Hound in his retirement years. When I first started dating my wife I let her carry it in her purse as a token of my affection and commitment. She had it in her purse for years, until someone stole it. Wouldn't have taken a million dollars for it, and it probably ended up in the bottom of a dumpster after the jerk who stole the purse looted the cards and cash:mad:
Funny thing is, I became nervous about her carrying the knife and asked her to take it out of her purse a couple of days before it was stolen, but she forgot. Must have had a premonition.
Every time I see a Case like that it makes me think of my grandfather-good memories.
Thanks:)

Hi You All! After trying several photo editing programs I bought this one, Photosuite version 4.0 platinum edition. It is really an awsome program. It will do everything. It will do all the normal stuff like editing a picture for apperance, size, cropping and it also lets you do stuff like combining different photos as one, special effects galore, make albums, screen savers, e-mail prep it goes on and on. Sony gives a lesser edition with there digital cameras. At any rate it cost me $59.00 and a month or so ago a friend found a deal at Comp USA that let you buy the program for free, with discounts and rebates. So if you shop around a little you can probably find a good deal on it. It is real easy to use, the booklet that comes with it is step by step by the hand easy. I've only been using computers for 1 1/2 years and I don't have any problems.
