Spent a few days looking online at info about this knife. I had always wanted this knife when I was younger, but the local knife shop wanted $150 for the thing which was way above my budget. Well I got the urge to check out some knives on amazon.com a few days ago and remembered I'd always wanted that knife.

So I bought it for $80 shipped, should be coming in next week. Can't wait, have wanted this knife for 6 years. :D

I've searched on this forum and found mostly positive reviews, but it doesn't seem like anyone talks about it anymore? This knife is BEAUTIFUL, I'd figure it'd be a very popular model.

I'm also thinking about purchasing a Blur or Leek in the near future.

There is no cure. You are now infected. Don,t fight it!
Sure a Leek is in your future, and a
ZT0300 :cool:etc.

Common Sense...The Rarest Of All Senses

My buddy has had a Boa for ~2 yrs now as an EDC knife and loves it. It's one of the few Kershaw's that is ZT-like. It fits the hand very well.

Since this knife is discontinued, how does warranty work go if the knife were to break? Does Kershaw still carry parts for it or would I have to buy a new knife?

Also, can I buy replacement parts from Kershaw now before they become unavailable, assuming they aren't already

Boa is a great knife. I have bought 3 before I was able to stop - two after I have heard that it would be discontinued. Well, now I feel sure that I will never run out of Boas.
The only knife that has the same kind of effect on me is Lum's Chinese Folder from Spiderco.

I owned one once myself. Well made knife. I like the scale texture but it tends to show hand oils and smudges but who cares.

Also, if you find it deploys slower than other Kershaws or ZT's with AO, that's normal. Mine didn't have the THWAP that other KAI AO products have. And I believe it was pretty much standard with the Boa.

You may want to get a nice rod sharpener such as the Sharpmaker or the AG Russell Ceramic Sharpener for that recurve.

I have two Boa's, one nib, one in my pocket for edc. Great knife! Kershaw still has parts for this knife. Received my user back about a week ago with a new blade. Total turn around time was about two and a half weeks.

Would it be wise of me to go ahead and order common replacement parts for it now before they stop making parts for it?

Also, as far as sharpening goes, I am a complete noob. Never used a real knife sharpener or whetstone before, only those cheap V style sharpeners you slip the blade through. Would I be better off sending it to Kershaw for sharpening? I don't want to try to learn on this knife as it is rather pricey to mess up from sharpening it wrong.

Wouldn't hurt, but I'd wait a few days to let the madness of the warehouse sale cool down before I'd shoot them an email. And yes I would send it to them for sharpening if you don't plan on getting quality sharpening equipment. (Just get a spyderco sharpmaker for touchups)

Here's some pics I took of it while I was at work.

Have some questions though. What are some safe chemicals to use to clean the blade finish? Also, is there a date code printed on the blade anywhere to indicate when it was made? I read that the older ones had date codes. This one is S30V so it's got to be somewhat new correct?

You can just use windex for the blade. The date may be printed on the flipper, but there were a few months when the date wasn't printed. It probably says S30V on the blade as well.
