This is my first post here on the Chris Reeve forum. This will be my second Reeve knife (first was a Mountaineer). I live in Northern Maine, and am an avid outdoorsman. All of my knives are users. They cut rope, cut brush, chop wood, make shelters and hunting blinds, prepare meals, clean fish and animals, you name it. They get dirty, dusty, grimy, bloody, and wet.

I hike, hunt, camp, canoe, kayak, atv, snowmobile, etc. The places I frequent are remote to say the least, and the weather ranges from the 90's in the summer to -30 and colder in the winter. If you get stuck out here (and I have!), a good knife is absolutely necessary!

For about 5 years now I've carried a Randall Model 5, with a 6" 01 tool steel blade. Its served me well, but I've had to tighten the butt nut several times when gaps began to appear in the handle's leather washers, and the tool steel will rust in the blink of an eye if you're not careful. The stacked leather handle can be really slippery when wet. The leather sheath has been dunked in the water dozens of times, and has just about had it too. Its still a good knife, but I need something that will hold up to the elements better.

I started thinking about what I really wanted in a outdoorsman's knife. I wanted a stainless steel blade 5-6" in length, a micarta grip, and either a ballistic nylon or waxed leather sheath. I narrowed it down to three possibilities. A Randall Model 15 customized to my specs, a Chris Reeve Green Beret 5.5", or the Neil Roberts Warrior knife. I've searched the forums and ebay for the Randall, but I haven't found one with a single hilt and green micarta handle, or with a waxed sheath. The fastest I could get one on special order was 4 months, and it would cost $500.00!

I almost bought a Green Beret last weekend in Freeport, but the price was a little too steep. I started poking around on the internet and remembered the Neil Roberts Warrior Knife I read about a while back. A little more research, and I was hooked. That's the knife I've been looking for!!

Then, I read about Neil and the sacrifice he made, about the son he left behind, and the trust fund receiving $20.00 from each knife sale. Being a red blooded American, and a veteran of the first Gulf War, I was really touched. That sealed the deal. A few clicks of the mouse, and my new Neil Roberts Warrior knife is on its way home! To honor Neil and the high speed-low drag way he (and all SEALs) lived his life, this knife is gonna get used! Here's to you Neil!

I love the way those knives feel in your hand, although I have to admit I did not think I would like them.

Did you get the serrations, or do they all come serrated?

Post some pics and let us know how well it stands up to use. Pics of the knife being used in the BFE are especially well received.

Congrats again, and thanks to you, Roberts, and his son. You deserved that knife. (Be sure and tell your wife that as well, if you are married.) :D

Will you be able to send the Randall 5 back in to be refurbished and then retired? Would be pretty neat to do so. :D :D :D

Congrats Scott , The CRK will serve you well , I just sent back a #4 to be redone and she looks brand new. :)

Congratulations on your acquisition. And God bless the family of Neil Roberts.

You scored a great knife! :D I love mine!

The Warrior knife does not come serrated nor will CRK put them on for you. It was designed without them and that's how it will stay.....serrated free.

I’ve taken my Neil Roberts Warrior on a few day hikes, and I am looking forward to having more opportunities to use it.

I’m so glad it doesn’t have serrations, and I really like the slight recurve.

The Neil Roberts doesn't come with serrations. That's just one of the reasons I bought it. I think I'll keep my Randall #5 just the way it is. I'll probably still carry it from time to time. All it really needs is a good polishing and cleaning up, and a new sheath. Once the Neil Roberts knife shows up I'll probably send it in. I wonder what the wait is like on a sheath? The Randall web site says you have to send in the knife to get a new sheath made. I hope their sheath turnaround beats the 43 month wait for a knife! As soon as I get the knife I'll post some action photos! Stay tuned,
Scott

Congrats Scott! - I hope mine will arrive today! :D :) Can't wait to go camp & hike with it.

Maybe I'll try to get one of those also. I handled one at the Atlanta Show and liked it. I'll have to give CRK a call.

I got mine yesterday - yeezzz... this thing is HUGE!
Beautifull work however. Perfect in every aspect.

Here's a pretty boring scan to start with. Will post more exciting pictures this weekend :D

Before I start, I have to apologize, NO PICS!! I left my digital camera at my girlfriend's house. Aughhhh! I promise to post action pics as soon as I get it back. Until then you'll have to let your imagination do the work....

Well there was a surprise waiting for me when I got home yesterday. My new Chris Reeve Neil Roberts Warrior has arrived! This thing is awesome in every way. The fit and finish is perfect, as are the grind lines and the edge. I tried to find just one minute fault with the knife, and I just couldn't! I tossed my Leatherman Wave in the utility pouch, and strapped it on right away.

I opened a few boxes, effortlessly, then decided to help my girlfriend make dinner. I cut tomatos, green peppers, and onions. The blade was a little thick for making thin cuts, but no big deal, I'm not that fussy when it comes to food.

Later in the evening I went outside and tried a few chopping strokes. I hacked down a few small maple saplings on my property that were growing where I didn't want them. The knife severed each 1/2" stalk with a single swipe. Cool!

I thought the sheath made the knife ride a little too low, so I folded the top half over, and lashed it down to the grommets provided using the tan paracord that came with it. That made a nice high ride sheath!

Today we went for a 48 mile 4 wheeler ride. We had a cook out at a place called Endless Lake. I brought the Warrior knife on its first outing. It worked out great. I drive a '05 Yamaha Rhino. It has bucket seats that sorta form around your body. Even so, the knife in its new high ride config. worked great. I used it to prepare another meal, and hack some weeds and slash down that was hiding the signs for the snowmobile trail we were following.

We met a few other groups of people and stopped to shoot the breeze. We had to give directions to two fellas who were lost. They didn't have a map or compass, and were traveling on the directions a buddy had given them earlier in the week. This is big country, owned by logging and paper companies. The roads and trails are constantly changing as it is, but a map and compass still helps. I swear, some people take some awful chances. Anyway, If anyone noticed that big knife on my side, they didn't say so.

When we got back we were filthy from all the mud and dust. I washed the knife off in the sink, wiped it dry and dusted off the sheath. Tomorrow we're going to hike Gulf Hagus. I guess its supposed to be like the Grand Canyon of the Northeast. You can bet the warrior knife is coming on that trip. More updates on the knife's performance and pics to follow.....
