I just bought this big ol' bowie from Etsy. For only 35 bucks!

And once I receive it in the mail I'll be sure to post more pics.

Meh. ;) Let us know how you like it, get some use out of it. I worry about stress points where the blade meets the handle at such a right angle. The lack of information on blade steel is worrisome. Looks like it will be fun to whack away vegetation in the creek. Have fun but be careful. Dad advice my daughter says. It can make a good wall decoration.

That’s got an interesting look, the extended ricasso is just strange and is most likely where that blade would snap if used as a chopper. I’d say you didn’t pay too much at $35 though if you got free shipping.

35 dollars well-spent, in that case.

I didn't mean to come across so negative in my first post. I love and have several Bowies. This one just isn't my cup of tea for a Bowie example. :)

It's cool man, no worries.

Also, I think it's the angle of the photo. I'm going to take better pics when I get it.

It definitely suits the role for your Confederate LARP'ing. It looks exactly like the crudely fashioned blade that many of the soldiers would have carried and used at the time.

P.S. Rub some oil into that handle. I bet it will make it "pop" really nicely, and bring out the wood grain and darken it up a bit, as well as protecting it from drying out and splitting. :)

I was actually thinking of doing that. I want to do the method that Phil Baumhardt does. He has some awesome vids on YouTube.

What I think happened is that a dude is slapping handles on Pakistani blanks and saying he made the knife. That happens a lot. It is unfortunate. I do not think you can just go on Etsy and get a real American-made Bowie for a double sawski. I support your deal-finding and attempt to buy American, though. I have a BudK bowie like this engraved from when I was first starting out and it is cool, lol.

I follow him on Instagram too, and there's videos of him forging the blades, etc...

He's definitely not slapping handles on paki blades lol

He is just starting out. And he is also a veteran. I'm glad to help him out. And I like his work.

Oh, that's awesome! This is a fantastic deal in that case! Sorry for making assumptions, but this is a crazy good deal.
Sweet!

Is it what you expected? No surprises? Most important are you happy with it? Best of luck with it and hope it adds panache to your reinactments! 👍👍

Yes, it's very solid, no play whatsoever, and it's got good balance. And looks awesome in person. My buddies want it lol plus the leather sheath is good quality. The bowie and sheath for $35, and Southern made. Can't beat it!
