I was told the original sheath sucks though, yes? If so, where can I find a better one?
I personally think it's good. No different than most companies factory sheath's.Try it for awhile and see how it works for you. Need better. Member 710 makes custom sheath's. Here's a link to his site.

I was not aware of that site. Some of those knives that are for sale look awesome, too, but I've never heard of em.
He makes nice scales for the Beckers too. Plus he is one hell of a nice guy. He'll try to make anything you ask for.
Have you ordered from him? I've been interested in getting a really heavy duty leather sheath made for a knife I have.

You do realize that you must first pass it around and let all of us use it first don't you? Ha, Just Kidding.
What are you going to do to it first?
His knives drive me crazy, I hate picking up a knife with black coating, to me it is cheap. It tells me the maker did not care enough to polish this blade to make it look pretty but instead dipped it in a bucket of bed liner and told me it was a modern better way of making knives.
I usually use the hell out of em until the coating is almost gone, then strip em. I leave the coating ON under the handle scales (for corrosion protection - nobody will see it anyway). I let em develop a natural patina. All of my knives have an "earned patina". No need to force it IMO. Use it enough, and it happens on it's own. You might not get all the willy nilly tiger stripes and whatnot, but whatever you cut will leave it's mark on that blade. I like that. And hey, if you don't like the patina, sand it off and start all over!
AntDog has the right idea. I hate the black coating on my BK9 but I am holding myself to strip it the "old-fashioned way". I used paint thinner right off the bat to strip my Ranger RD-7 from Justin. Worked like a charm, but it took me quite some time with various sandpaper grits to get the blade to a satin finish like I wanted. From the stripped BK-9 photos I have seen, it seems much cleaner. Put the micarta scales on it and that is a real beauty.
Otherwise, the BK-9 should make a good companion. I just ran with a Fallkniven F1 when I was doing SAR in school. Good luck and be safe.
