I had one of my "strange" ideas a couple of days ago, and wanted to run it past you guys. I`m thinking of a Knatchet with about 1 1/2" of the tang exposed at the end, with a prybay / nailpuller ground into it. Kind of an emergency tool. The blade is already wide enough to dig with, and I thought this idea might make it more versatile, kind of a urban survival tool. Let me know your thoughts.

Sounds good John, I'd be tempted to make the handle 1" longer though so that you are only losing 1/2" compared to the standard version. The handle length really helps when chopping with your hand choked back !

This is interesting.
I've been "hinting" around about a knachet to the Wife for my birthday.
:)

Excellent idea Stomper! When you say "urban survival tool" I think of a Knatchet with a "tactical" kind of look, somewhat like a breaching tool. Would you take it that far?

Sounds like a pretty cool idea to me, John--gonna have somebody GunKote it for that extra-tactical look? I don't know, I'm torn on that suggestion :P

Might it be best to have the prybar edge on same as the ESEE knives HEST, it would allow a more soild grip maybe ?

i'd suggest putting the puller on the head end opposite the sharp edge and not on the butt. something mpre like a 'hawk.

i've got a Stanley FUBAR with a curved prybar at the butt and find that it digs into my hand in some grips, but it's curved.

i'd draw what i'm thinking of, but that's a little akawrd until i get new glasses.

Hi Stomper -

Kinda like you read my mind there! :D

best regards -

it looks like a devil's cloven hoof. :D

i don't dislike it, but i'd be concerned about either chewing up the butt of the scales when prying or flexing the haft enough to possibly separate the scales from the steel.

not saying that it would, just that i'd be concerned about it.

if i were ordering a Knatchet, and at some point i'd like to, i'd order the original version. the lines on that are really nice.
