I made this knife a year and a half ago, and just wasn't happy with the handle on it. See the pictures and you'll know what I mean. I offered to put another handle on it, and a few months ago the owner finally took me up on it. Let me know what y'all think.

Original (goncalo alves, copper and nickel silver):

Phillip... Absolutely LOVE the new handle. What a great package. I was hoping this one was for sale... I'm sure the owner w/love the new setup.

Much better. To me the line of the back of the handle should flow from the back of the blade. It makes, to my eyes, a much more pleasing profile for the knife and your second handle nailed it.

Exactly. That's what I really didn't like the first one. I actually had to cut off the first tang, and weld another one on, because the first one had too much drop to it.

looks much better.

What do you finish your handles with?

I have to agree that it looks much better and I can say with 100% certainty that the owner will be pleased with the results. I can guarantee that 100% claim since I am said owner. lol

Great work Phillip. Thanks for the upgrade. I've always loved this damascus and now I think the handle lives up to the blade.

Looks great to me now. Honestly, I really like both handles quite a bit....

Hi,
I finish them on the belt grinder (slack belt) with 400 grit, then buff with green chrome.
Some woods then get a few coats of danish oil, others are dense enough they don't need it.

Phillip, can I ask you what kind of material is between metal layers ot the guard? some kind of plastic?

I use something called "fiber spacer". I don't know what it is, but it looks like really thin tar paper. I get it from Sheffield supply, and they have it in different colors.

The old handle wasn't bad, especially if that drop across the spine could be fixed,
the new one totally rocks!

Good upgrade Phillip
I guess the new handle feels better and it could be gripped confortably in any way of handgrip (i.e. front grip or back grip)

Mohd
