Hi all,
I was so excited today when I came from work and saw a UPS package sitting on the doorstep. (We all know that feeling)

I just received my 2nd CS Safekeeper II.

For those of you not familiar with the CS line, the Safekeepers are a double egded push dagger with a Kraton handle.

This, IMHO, has to be the most perfectly, well built push dagger in existance. Certainly the best production example available anywhere (to my knowledge).
Anyone who has handled this knife will surely agree.

I know that I didn't need another (hell.... I probably didn't need the 1st one), but, I couldn't resist the XMas sale at Special Projects.

Now I'm thinking about having a dual carry Kydex sheath made for them.
I'm picturing a rear carry belt loop horizontal mount that will carry one on each side.
I can picture it now!!!!
Sweet!!!!!!!

The Raptor likes to carry sharp claws!!!
Too bad it's not legal.

Trust me guys.......check these knives out.
You won't be disappointed.

I've got one. I've kept it in my car since the day I got it. I don't know what the police may think about it, but I feel much safer having it by my side. There's just something about Cold Steel knives that appeals to me. I never cared much about knives until a friend showed me his first Cold Steel Tanto back in 1991. Since then I have purchased:
1) Cold Steel Voyager Tanto 4" serrated.
2) Two model 13AN Tantos.
3) Magnum Tanto II
4) My prize Imperial Damascus Tanto
5) Safe Keeper II
6) Some small san mai III lockback from 1991.

Currently wanting a model 13BN Master Tanto and another Imperial Damascus Tanto. An Imperial Tai Pan would also be nice!

Those SafeKeepers are some serious steel!!!
I want to get one for my brother for when he gets out of the police academy. It should make a nice little back-up piece.

Bimmer,
Cold Steel seems to be running through my veins.
I'm a big fan!! Especially in regards to their fixed blades.

You have a pretty impressive collection of CS.
I too crave a Imperial Tai Pan for myself, but then, who wouldn't want one??
I would already have one if it wasn't for the price tag. There are just way too many customs out there that I would want first though.

As far as legallity goes, I wouldn't want to be found with this one on me during a traffic stop.

The term "push dagger" seems to always pop up as a defining term when used during descriptions of illegal knives to carry.
But, if it were not for a legal issue, and I was found in a position whereas I had to defend myself with deadly force, this knife would probably rate as a first pick.

Remster,
Safekeepers.....Serious Steel??????
Oh Yeah!!!!!

I'm sure that your brother will love the gift, however, I'm not sure that he will find it practical (or legal) to carry.

My personnal belief is that all LEO's deserve to carry a last ditch back-up knife.
And, as stated before, this one would serve him well in this role.
The problem would be that the damaged caused to the BG would be so great that the LEO would now be vilified (is that aword??) and he would probably find himself in the hot seat.
As I understand it, several LEO's, are torn between departmental policies and their own personnel protection in regards to this subject.
That's a pretty s****y position to have to be placed into for a LEO.

Well, I hope I didn't depress you since you were intent on giving a Safekeeper to your brother, but, maybe you can get him one anyway.
If he likes knives, he's sure to appreciate this one.

While I was taking my core academy, we were actually told that there has been a few occassions where an officer used a pen to stab an individual attacking them. To think that this is more acceptable than carrying a knife designed for defense is confusing.

I guess that I would have to find the sharpest, toughtest pen around then!!!

Still, that's pretty bad.

Actually, some departments are looking forward.

Our department (which has less than 175 sworn)has had a Edged Weapons Tactics unit for the last 2 years. They put on a program for all academeies and interested in-service personnel on called the Law Enforcement Edged Weapons Tactics course. The class is geared to knife to knife confrontations (making it useful for off duty) and for firearm retention. We are encouraged to carry 3 different blades for defensive use.

Cold Steel Voyagers seem to dominate, and the CS Safekeepers are specifed for use in the course material. Now that they are getting discontinued I will be ordering a SK III, because the shorter, single edged blade is my preference. If I can only find one of the old leather sheaths... Several of our Investigators are members of the EWT unit. They use the old leather sheaths for the CS SK IIIs as a clip on badge case. If you don't know what you are looking for you only see the badge, not the knife. The sheaths for the other SKs are pretty obvious.

lc609,
WOW!!!!

I can't believe it!!!
Three knives recommended for carry??
And the Safekeeper is actually mentioned???
biggrin.gif

I say excellant!!!
Now that is cool!!

It's about time that the public started to protect the individuals who are sworn to protect them.

Enough said!!!

I am a Cold Steel fan too. My first CS was an Urban Skinner, the predecessor to the current single edge Safe Keeper. It has been a comfort to me, on and off, for years. Since then, I bought the Master Tanto, a beautiful knife, and a four inch, plain edge, Voyager tanto which I have carried every day for several years. Cold Steel knows steel.
