OK so I have to admit that it has been several years since I purchased anything from Cold Steel. I still have an original Japanese made Voyager tanto folder (that I have beat the crap out of), a small Shinobu folder, and maybe a sjambok or two but that's about it.

Recently I saw the new 2013 Code 4 folders and thought, "Maybe it's time to try another Cold Steel folder and use it as my new beater folder". I ordered th Code 4 plain edge clip point and received it today.

Not a bad folder at all. Great fit and finish for a Taiwan made product, super sharp edge, cool aluminum handle slabs, tri-ad lock, etc.

I think for the price that it's a real winner. I find it's a little tough to open due to it's size but I won't let that deter me.:D

Can't beat the Triad Lock. That folder in a Ti handle and higher end steel would draw even more buyers!

I really like mine, and I don't like lock backs. Mine is very smooth and easy to open with the thumbstud, just a little wrist flick. Closing it one handed is the challenge.

Just ordered a spear point and was about to start a thread but saw this one.

Any more thoughts after a few weeks of use?

Nothing to really add other then I have also purchased the spear point since my original post and I like them both. Handles are a little slick but they are really a great value in my opinion.

i got one as well, really nice knife for the price point.

love how thin it is, the ergonomics, and of course the tri-ad. it is one well thought out knife design, imho.

only complaints is the pocket clip, not using vg10 steel:) and the name of it.

the pocket clip is not turned up enough at the end and i have to fingernail it up allot to slide over even thinner khaki pants pockets. makes one handed pocketing tedious, frustrating and slow.

i just like vg10 steel better, but it's a non issue for the most part.

the name code4.....too tactical timmy sounding, using a police term, imho, and ymmv of course.

Just received mine today.

Really dig the satin finish and the sharpening choil is a nice touch also.

Just received a spearpoint Code 4, a nice knife for the money. The thin profile carries well, especially when I'm riding my motorcycle and the knife came with a great edge. I put a few drops of oil on the pivot and opened and closed the knife several time and the lock seemed to smooth out nicely. Overall, a very good carry knife for the money. My only wish is that the smooth aluminum scales had a bit of texture, I may bead blast the scales to add some more grip.

I bought the spear point shortly after it was released. It's surpassed my expectations, and I couldn't be happier with it. Once broken in (and it has been my experience that all Tri-Ad lock folders are made to be broken in), it's super smooth and super easy to open and close with one hand. In my opinion, it's perfection.

I was wondering if you could post a pic of the tips of the spear point and clip point side by side? I'm in the process of deciding which to buy and tip strength is the only thing holding my back.

Here's a couple of pics...

Apologies for the quality of the images. They were taken on my cell phone in the warehouse with bad lighting

I hope that they help

I am really happy with my tanto, would like to get the clip point in the future. These are great knives...

Well, this thread convinced me. I'm getting a spear point code 4! It beat out some more expensive knives for my next knife too! That spear blade is like the perfect shape in my opinion.
