I received my CRKT 18-04 yesterday via UPS and I am very impressed. The knife has a solid heft without being too bulky and the blue G-10 inserts give the handle a nice contrast while enhancing the grip. The recurved blade has the same kind of "frost" finish that CRKT uses on the Lightfoot Urban Shark, and the edge is highly polished. The action is smooth as silk and the knife can be opened as fast as most automatics by using the Carson flipper. I had only one gripe about the knife I received, but it's with the the distributor. It seems that every CRKT knife I order from this particular distributor come with nicks or burrs on the edges. Such was the case with my M18. Nevertheless, I used a Gatco TRI-SEPS pocket sharpener to remove the annoying nick. The blade no longer has the shiny polished factory edge, bit it has an extremely sharp "grabby" edge that cuts with a vengeance. Overall, I am very impressed with this knife and plan to use it daily, The only changes I'd like to see would be a larger lanyard hole in the handle and perhaps an additional G-10 insert below the pocket clip on the smooth side of the handle. These are a matter of personal preferance, but I highly recommend this knife to anyone looking for a solid modern folder.

They are nice aren't they! I bought one in November and carried it for about two weeks straight. Now, this might not sound like a long time, but for me, it's an eternity.

I figure if a knife can last a week in my pocket, before I buy another, or move on to one I own, it's fairing pretty darn well. I would recomend the M-18 to anyone, especially considering the price. It's a real winner in my book.

I purchased one just after Thanksgiving with the blue inserts and after the initial positive impression wore off I was totally disenchanted with it. I will say I it was scary sharp and I that I liked most everything about it except for the liner lock. I know it has the LAWKS for safety but the liner lock on mine was so weak that I could defeat it with very little downward pressure on the spine of the blade. The liner lock you could actually feel moving over on the base of the blade itself. The LAWKS kept it from closing on my hand though. But by the same token the blade developed a bit of downward play in it due to this. So it went back. Hope yours doesn't experience the same thing. It is a nice design with half decent steel and is big. Bigger than what I was expecting. Keep'em sharp

That's sad to hear Longbow, it is a very cool knife. Did you send yours back to CRKT? I sent an email to the Florida based internet distributor who I purchase my CRKT knives from regarding them being shipped with nicks and burrs on the edges, so I'll wait to see what kind of response I get. I don't know if someone at their shipping area plays around with the blades, but we'll see.

I am planing on puchasing one in the future as a knife to keep in my car. I think it is a great design.

Good luck with the M-18, Javier. I've had my eye on that knife for some time. You pushed me closer to the edge.

El Cid,
Let us know what response you get from the dealer. It would
seem that nicks and burrs would be a manufacturing problem.
