Just received my first and new Kabar USMC !

Looks like maybe an errant grind line? I don't know if it would be considered a defect or not. I hear they are all over the place with stuff like that. They will tell one guy "well, that just proves that our knives are hand ground and every one is unique". Then they'll tell the next guy "yeah, that's an obvious defect. Send it in for replacement". Never can tell how they're going to react until you ask.

If it were mine though, I'd keep it. If it breaks across that line they will most likely swap it out.

If you are going to use it then I would say let it be but on the other hand if it bothers you just return it to the seller and get another one.

I've just e-mail to Kabar, looking forward to see what they'll reply to this. Stay tuned ! and by the way...thanks a lot for quick reply ! This forum is a gem for guys like me !

Someone has seen it before on their blades or i'm just unlucky ? Seems to me i'm looking too much for perfection !

You have a right to expect no cosmetic flaws on a brand new knife that you pay good money to purchase.
If you plan on using it, then I really don't think it will matter much to you after awhile.
I believe Ka-bar will treat you right with their customer service and exchange the knife for another one, if you want them to.
If you plan on using it for work and play, I suggest you go to your local hardware store to the plumbing department, buy five, size 15 O-Rings (1x3/4x1/8) and roll them onto your handle to fill in the grooves. You will get a much better grip on the handle, especially when your hands are wet.
It's a great knife; I've been using mine for over 44 years.

Kabar replies quickly as they ask me to ship the faulty knife to them right away ! They made a shipping label for me ! Just hopes i wont get duties fees coze im from Canada. I love Kabar !

That's great news! I'm glad for you man. When you get the new one, post an updated pic.

Yes you are to an extent, considering what the intended purpose it, the price point, and mass production factor. It's a classic military knife design, and has seen combat on almost every continent. It's not even close to being a custom, one of a kind, hand ground Loveless style knife. It's a workhorse knife, meant to be used and with some luck and reasonable care can be handed down to your kids. Just my opinion.

Good job, Warpmind, keep us informed on how the knife exchange with Ka-bar works out for you.

Hey Swampdog, the last o ring near the pommel doesn't fit...loosy where the handle narrow...you put a 3/4 ?

Warpmind,
Sorry, I've been off-line for a few days...
I use #15 O-Ring (1 x 3/4 x 1/8) made by Danco, Inc. purchased at Ace Hardware in the plumbing section.
I use them on my Ka-Bar full size USMC and my Ka-Bar KBD-1, both have Kraton G thermoplastic elastomer handles.
The #15 O-Rings fit snugly in all of the grooves, including the groove closest to the pommel.
Is your handle the leather stack washers type handle? If so, maybe the grooves are cut deeper?
Hope this helps.

I have never and will never own a Ka-bar.....

It makes me sick when I see them name a knife USMC since their negligence resulted in the needless death of six US soldiers...

I wish we would all think more before we give our money to a company like this.

See History:

Ask Earnest if this really happened. I can't give them a dime of my money....

So yes, return it and buy something else.
