Overall I'm very happy with it, but was surprised by a few things:

1. Out of the box, it would only just barely push cut standard printer paper, and won't shave at all. Not a huge deal as I enjoy sharpening my knives, but I had always heard ZT blades come very sharp from the factory...

2. The G10 scale F&F seems somewhat sub-par, all along the front edge, it hangs over the liner slightly, and at the top where the steel curves up to catch the thumb stud/blade stop, the scale doesn't follow and has a slightly funny shape.

Are these typical variances that I'm being too picky about? The only similarly priced knives I've owned were Spydercos, and they seemed to have nicer attention to detail...

My 566 is CF and the scale is alligned well. I had to run it through the sharpmaker when I opened it. I didn't love it until I de-assisted it, after which it became one of my favorite kinves.

The scales are designed for that. When the knife is opened that is where the thumb studs/blade stops rest. If it was G-10 than it would eventually wear down compared to steel.... Same thing on 0560's etc....

Although I probably wouldn't have noticed, I do think that scale is out of the ordinary.

I understand what you are saying in theory, but it doesn't seem to fit in this case, because the g10 is "pulled back" on either side of where the blade stop makes contact, but not at the apex of the"pocket" which is the exact point of contact.

I guess I'll contact ZT to see what they say

Mine came sharp, with better scale alignment. I've handled two other copies like mine. Worth contacting them about if it bugs you.

Mine also came with better scale alignment, and was pretty damn sharp.
Not sure if there might be a difference in older vs newer knives?
Mine is 7096, so not a early one. Maybe things have improved or got worse?
Send it back if you are not happy with that scale alignment.

I had to use a 8X loupe to see that. Mine is kinda like the area at the tip...but not down the scale.

Anyhow, if I have to find flaws with a loupe, then it is time to up my meds....

I had a spyderco paramilitary 2 that came dull. I imagine it happens once in a while with "mass" produced items. I spent about 30 minutes with a 1000 grit japanese whetstone and sharpened it to the sharpness I prefer.

My 0566 (SN 2958) looks exactly like yours at the tip of the scale. I don't think that's out of the ordinary.

ETA: My 0562 has the same moiety at the tip of the scale as well. Seems more like design than flaw as far as ZT is concerned.
