Well, you guys did it--I'm hooked on traditional knives now.
After posting my questions about where to start, I decided on a GEC Trapper in red jigged bone. (I also have an AG Russell Gunstock and Sowbelly on the way...)
I'm very impressed with the GEC--it definitely is a quality knife. I do admit though, as was mentioned in my initial thread, that fit and finish of similarly priced quality modern/tactical folders is better--but that could be due to the ability to more easily mold or fit artificial materials used for the scales.
There is nice tension in the backspring, and a great snap to the blades. I love the spey blade on this one.
I bought this one to carry in places where whipping out a tactical folder for use would raise eyebrows. The GEC will work perfectly, as it's elegant, well made, and nice to look at.
Although I don't yet know specifically which patterns I 'like', I know which patterns and set-ups I do NOT like. I have a bad feeling that this is just the beginning...
