ALSO POSTED ON THE SPYDER-site...

Hee-hee! It’s here, it’s here!

My new Tim Wegner arrived today. A gorgeous plain edge, C48. And it is absolutely beautiful. I mean, the fit and finish on this knife are first rate. It’s so smooth along the spine that it feels like it’s been polished for a long time. The G-10 scales are grippy, yet very smooth and don’t drag at all on pocket material during sheathing and unsheathing. The factory edge on this knife as delivered is the sharpest I’ve seen yet; easily shaves arm hair - almost effortlessly.

I’m very impressed.

Now, on to the feel of this knife. I now understand after only a few hours with it, what all the fuss is about with the Wegner design. The way it fits my hand is so natural, and the way it fits my pocket is so comfortable. The knife’s handle has a curvature when folded such that the bottom of the handle contours to the front, right pocket of my pants leaving the knife mostly out of the way even when a hand is placed into the pocket. This to me, is unprecedented with full sized folders.

The edge has lots of belly, is ridiculously sharp and consistently so front end to end. Wow. The weight of the knife is perfect. It has the “heft” I like, but it’s not heavy at all. Incredible.

And here, I used to think these knives were ugly...I believe it’s the nicest looking knife I own now. Good job Spyderco!

Jeff:
Congratulations. :)
I also feel that mine is the sharpest plain-edge knife out-of-box I've ever owned. IMO it's born to be a plain-edge knife.:D Although mine is currently awaiting its return to the EDC carry rotation (been busy bonding with other knives lately) it will soon!

The Wegner is one of those knives that isn't flashy or cool, but if you give it a chance and actually use one, it goes right to the top of the rotation. Probably my all time favorite "all around" knife.

Yes fellows, it's really quite something. An amazing knife.

Dennis, I knew you'd be pleased for me. I am beginning to understand why you will need to buy a few more of these before you can't anymore. I've only owned this knife for a day so far, and already I can't imagine being without it. I believe it comes closest to the one that has "everything I've always wanted in a folder".

Here are two pictures I took today:

Beautiful huh?

By the way...do any of you know what angle the edge on this knife will have been sharpened at from the factory? When I do decide to sharpen it the first time, I'd like to preserve the factory angle if possible. Is it 30 degrees total, or 40 degrees? I'll be using my sharpmaker 204 when the time comes.

Thanks, Jeff/1911.

Gotta love a knife that's made just right! Now go USE it and you'll appreciate it even more! Mine is the knife I grab when I know there's work to be done.

Actually, it's either the Spyder Wegner, or the talonite fixed blade Wegner - you're just seeing the onset of Wegner-itis. You've got some knives to buy before it's full blown! :D

Brian,

I suspected it was the beginning of something much larger. Yep, I'm on the downhill slide I'm afraid. Been looking at as Wegner Jr. too.

Fellow Wegner enthusiasts,

I noticed a picture in a small advertising brochure (dated 1997) that I received in the box w/ a knife purchased about a year ago, that shows the Wegner and Wegner Jr. Both of these knives apparently have some engraving on the blade, and the nonclemature has a little symbol showing that they are TIP DOWN! What? Do you mean that a previous version of this knife I just bought was made tip down? Man, would I like to get ahold of one of those!!!! Anybody seen one?

I appreciate the welcome. Something I forgot to mention among the "things that blow me away about my new Wegner" is the high level of polish on it's blade. It's gorgeous! Ultra shiny and smooth. Takes my breath away.

Cheers, Jeff/1911.
