Hello BF

In the past 2 mo. I really got into better quality knives to name a few manufactures (benchmade,Spyderco, and Zero Tolerance). Before that I would purchase ones from gas stations use them and when they broke or got dull I would just buy another one.

My question is when do you know if you are really hooked, lately all I been looking at in and out of BF are the real expensive blades like right now my 2 grail blades are a Bodega or a shirogorov. Being only a few months in is that a bad move to jump into customs? Thanks in advance....

The first step is admitting you have a problem. Some of us aren't quite there yet

Jumping straight into MidTechs/Customs isn't a bad thing per say.

I just always recommend picking up some good Production Knives first.

Your two current Grail Knives are great choices, I have a Bodega coming in the next week or so.

And a Shirogorov Mod 95 is another of my grails as well, just need to find someone selling one lol.

If you don't have a Sebenza yet then I would highly recommend you picking one up as well, every collection needs at least one Sebbie :D

+ 1 on the Sebenza! And there is no reason to make the jump, but your bank account will hate you! It only gets worse from here.......

I'd say you know you're really hooked when it's no longer about just grabbing a knife and stuffing it into your pocket for the day but instead when you're thinking daily about knives, steel, grinds, sharpening, what to cut... etc

The absolute most surefire indicator though is the presence of your "knife fund" and the hunt for your next piece.. or two. Cuz you know what they say right - two is one and one is none!

you know, the lack of money has never stopped an addiction...
but if you're headed that direction;
you're hereby officially condemn
to live a fulfilling life time of perpetual buying and selling of knives.

While lack of money may never stop an addiction, an allowance towards a hobby for those who can afford it will bring joy. A lifetime seems to condemning, purchase habits can waiver or die down. Someday I guess, we might feel we have a good enough collection as it is. We may pick it up again later if something brings up a resurgence.

The point of no return for me was customs. Once I found out that knives can be made to such a high degree of overall quality and beauty I was hooked.

Looking at pictures of them on here is one thing, but after you handle, own and use one it's a slippery slope. YMMV

I knew I was hooked. With regards to a CRK which one to go with first a 21,25,the TI lock or the manandi. Do you guys also plan ahead to what blade you carry with you for the day?

From my experience, buy the best that you can afford. It seems that the high quality blades loose very little value. I just worked my way up to a Bodega and wished I would have started there.

It depends. Do you fancy a heavier, more robust folder or a thiner, lighter option of the same knife? I tend to prefer the 25, but it may do you some good to sample the 21 before experiencing the 25. The nuances will be more appreciated.
