I recieved my 1st Sebenza this morning and it is absolutely amazing. It definately will not be my last.

There is a slight problem however. It is extremely difficult to unlock, so much so that it is impossible to do with one hand. Does anyone know how this can be remedied ?

I had the same problem when I got my Sebenza, I found that I had to push down and away
instead of straight to the "left". A touch
of lube on the tang and locking arm seems
to help also.

It could also be a case tthat the Lock Bar hasn't been heattreated, every now and then one escapes, the Titanium can gall against the stainless and realllly lock up or wedge so tight that you can't hardly move the lock bar.
I'd email Chris Reeve and ask them if you could send it in for a look see!

It also depends on how far you push the locking bar over when locking it. When I push it all the way to the right scale, then I really have to used two hands. But if the bar goes half the way as it's supposed to do, it shouldn't take more than one hand and a little practice.

When I open it, the bar jumps a fraction of a fraction past halfway across the tang (is that the correct word). I dont push it across at all.

It is so incredibly stiff that my fingers are very sore after trying all day.

Llamedos,

Contact CRK and send it back to them for a look see. Either that - or - get some muscles! It shouldn't be that hard to operate!!

Here is their e-mail:

Good Luck!!!!

Just for a reference...Mine was "born" Dec 2, 1999 and mine locks up VERY solid, but it is also very smooth and easy to unlock. I think Id call CR and maybe send it back.

JD..
No Worries..
It is a minor adjustment, return to CRK and they will make it sweet..
You should not have to struggle to disengage the integral lock..
When releasing lock push out at a slight angle instead of straight out to the side.
If that doesnt help, CR will make it right..

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
Kdarmy, it was 'born' on 19th January 2000.
Still not any looser so I mailed CR yesterday and am waiting for the reply.

Its just extremely annoying as I will probably have to send it back paying for even more shipping costs from UK when its just come all that way already.

Hi there

This is the first time I see this problem with the sebenza - and it got me worried - cause I am thinking of getting my first one soon.
Was it solved???

Who paid the shipping to UK???

Llamedos,

Have you lubricated the lock? I had a small Sebenza that was impossible to unlock after lubricating it. It would open smoothly initially, but would tighten up tremendously once the lubricant carrier wore off (Wilson's Ultima Lube Grease). I've found that liner and integral locks do better without lubricant on the lock. You should only lube the pivot. Try getting all the lube off of the lock face with some folded paper. Work it between the handle and lock face quite a bit. If the lock doesn't loosen some after a day or two, I would send it back to CRK. Just MHO.

Later,
Chris

I got it from Knifecenter of the Internet. Shipping was $21.

CPR Thanks for the tips but I dont quite know what you mean. It is extremely hard to disengage/unlock, making it virtually impossible to slide to the side with the thumb (thumb goes white, painfull).

It sounds like it grinds on the Tang (is that the name of the very bottom of the blade) when you move it over.

I've emailed CRK (Bridget) and because I dont wanna risk sending it in the mail, I'm gonna bring it with me to the blade show in June.

I agree with G2. Send it back to the factory for adjustment. Why live with a problem.

This happened to me. The lock bar probably just needs to be re-heat treated. Good luck.
