Got home last nite to find a package waiting for me from knifeoutlet.com...Woo Hoo...more toys! :)

After playing with my Twitch II last nite, I have to say I'm a bit disappointed in the SAT (SOG Assist Technology). I thought it would be more smoother and faster when opening. The position of the thumb screw is so close to the butt of the blade that you really can only use the "kick" to open the knife effectively. 1/2 the time when you flip the blade open using the "kick" it doesn't open all the way and lock in place. You have to deliberately flick it hard in order for it to fully engage.

I thought that it just needed to be broken in, but played with it for several hours last nite (while watching TV) and it still seems a bit slow every few times.

Has anyone else played with this knife? Any suggestions, can it be fine tuned?

IMO the non-assisted BM 921 I received the other day is faster opening than the Twitch II. I have a Blink coming this week, so I can compare that to the Twitch II and see if they are similar in release.

FWIW, you can't beat it for the price, and it might be a bit unfair to compare it to the BM 921 (over 2 times the price). The fit and finish of the Twitch II is very nice, the slide lock to prevent the blade opening in your pocket is a very good idea too. I wish it had the Arc lock though, as it's a bit hard to close the knife one handed.

Hey Bill,

SOG is known for having great customer service and does support their products well. If I were you, I'd call their customer service department at 888.SOG.BEST and see if there is a "home fix" or if sending it in would be their recommendation. Or, you can email them at warranty@sogknives.com or directly email Loretta, the department head.

If you didn't know, I managed SOG's customer service and warranty departments for over five year until just recently. During my tenure, we really took care of our customers in situations like yours.

and it's faster than my wife's Blackout but a hair slower than her Chive. Pretty quick. You might send it back to SOG, I'm sure they'll make it right.

Thanks guys for your feedback. :)

I think I'm going to work with it a bit more, and wait to call SOG until I receive my Blink and can compare the action. It just may be the "way it is" in terms of how it operates and I could be wrong in expecting it to be quicker.

FWIW, I bought my boss a Twitch II as well, and gave him his last nite, he hasn't noticed the same things I have with his, so maybe I can compare the two and see if indeed there is a problem with mine.

BTW, does SOG have a "reconditioning" service where you can send in an old knife and get it tuned up, sharpened, and brought back to original specs?

i just received a Twitch II for Christmas, and it's quite nice. the SAT is quite a bit slower, and gentler than the opening of my Leek, or my wife's Chive. it is, however, on par with my Blink, and the two look like a matched set, though they are two slightly different shades of grey.

my one main gripe with both the Twitch and the Blink, is: one-handed opening, but TWO-handed closing???!! who thought that one up? don't get me wrong, i like my SAT knives just fine, but it seems silly to open the knife so easily and spend a bit more time closing it. my best "one-handed" closing method involves folding the knife against my thigh... not a very safe way to do it.

i'll have to Militec this thing, and see if i can smooth it up a bit. other than that, i felt the fit and finish were great, and my grinds are almost perfectly even out of the box. not as scary sharp as my Endura or Mini Grip, but still quite nice, and it shaves.

congrats on your SOG knife combo purchase, Bill!!

abe m.
