Just saw the addition to the custom shop...

Thats cool. Expensive if you want stag or buffalo but cool. Nice to see a knife like this added to their selection.

I also like to see all the new items in the custom shop. However, the current pricing is a complete joke. As happy as I am to see the 916 version in the custom shop at 4 bills for an Elk handle is almost funny (not)! I guess Buck custom shop now only caters to the rich and famous. I'm sure not many can afford to pay the prices on the left over LE's on the web specials page that have not sold due to the over the top high prices (but the web special is $25 off full retail price). A custom shop folder in Elk can be had for a Bill & a half, so I guess that's better than nothing....right. Sorry angry rant off.

$240 isn't cheap for the ironwood handle version. However, for a US made bowie I don't think it's totally out of line. I wanted a user bowie a while back and ended up going with a Browning made in Taiwan mostly since it came with a stud type of belt sheath. If you look at the Cold Steel line of bowies I think this isn't bad, plus Buck and made here.

Would be very tempted (still am) if it came with a stud type of sheath rather than the belt version. Tried everyone to get that type of sheath made for a 120 with no luck, or it was $100+ (which is why I went Browning).

Barley a toy with its small handle, I would go $400 for mastodon Ivory, or real pearl, no way for elk or Buffalonicpe bade, but not the K nie I want to see in the new CS. I wat tos see the 920's, 905, etc...

+1,

Your right on for the 916, I would be happy to $400 for it in MI. The 920's would be a nice addition if they are not over priced.

It's not totally out of line for a USA Made big Bowie. But it is a bit out of line that at that price you're getting 420HC. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Bucks 420HC, but I think it's just not a steel that warrants this high price tag. By the time you hit the $240 mark, you're only $10 away from stuff like Bark River's A2 Bowie.

I just can't see spending $240 on a great budget steel. Kinda kills the whole "budget" thing. If they made it with brass bolster and the usual Dymondwood Rosewood scales and it had a street value of $75-80ish, I think it would be a hell of a competitor. At these prices, I'll pass.

oh yeah I'd totally throw my money on a ''brass bolster and the usual Dymondwood Rosewood scales and it had a street value of $75-80ish'' a carbon steel for better toughness would be a big win as well and it does not cost anything more for Buck.

I agree with many here. At that price there should be a little better steel. Personally though I would rather have the cheaper materials and be half the price they are asking.

I agree, totally. Even 5160 is plain old fashioned carbon steel and inexpensive. Now, if they were making that knife from 3V or 4V or something, Super Blue, or something, I could see paying a bit more.

If you stick to the basics you have the choice of diamond wood or buckeye burl. It would be nice to see a better picture of the latter, the nifty build your knife tool isn't that great for just seeing what it looks like.

You can get the Bark River's awesome 10" blade "Michigan 1909" bowie for $300.

They're offering a beautiful Bowie for sure. I just can't wrap my brain around the price.

Yeah, the Frontiersman has a list price of $206 and is roughly comparable, the difference being you can buy it at retail on-line for $130. So a lot of the cost is that you pay full retail from the Custom Shop.

It would suit me very well if the released a production version of the 916.

Here's a picture that user Mike Kerins posted a couple years ago that shows the 916 and 924 together.
