Hi,
I’m new to knife making, but a fairly competent handwork smith. This forum seems to have friendly and informative members. I’m hoping, with your help, to learn to be a respectable bladesmith. I’ve gathered a great deal of 5160 over the years that I use for tooling, I like its toughness and edge holding ability, so I thought I’d start with it, plus I’m cheep. I’m in the process of making two blades with it at the moment, I'd post a picture, but apparently it must be located on a web page first. I use a coal forge, and am in the process of building a gas forge for knife heat treating. I have a few odd ideas about how to do things, so be as patient with me as you can. At the moment I’m making a knife vice. I’ll post pictures of it when it’s finished, if i can figure out how and if anyone is interested.

Welcome to the forums. It seems the posts with the pic's are my favorites. I'm always interested in new ways to hold a knife.

Welcome to the addiction.:D It's like potato chips, you can't make just one.

It's easy, where ya from?
read the stickies, especially the "newies good info here" a lot of the links are broken (one of the mods is working on relinking them) and Kevin's "working with the three steel types" if you read those first it will go a long way towards eliminating the questions that get asked every 3-5 weeks here

welcome

Welcome.
This is the place to be if you want to learn from those who do it every day.
