that sure is a nice knife, i want one.

does it feel too light in the hand?

i know its built strong but i handled a mayo northshore and it felt soooo light it seemed it would break if u ever gave it hard use, does the 172 have the same lighter then a knife should be feeling?

The model 172 Mayo is titanium so it is very light and very strong. I use mine as an EDC and it is fantastic.

My thoughts exactly. :)

I had one of these a while back and let her go, and recently picked
up another one, kept remembering how nice the blade was ground
thin edged sharp! So I picked this one up and emailed Tom Mayo
thanking him for the design, even though it's not a wharncliffish
blade, but cuts so well :)
He said an easy mod to do would be to smooth down the thumb
ramp to the oval hole as they are a bit abrupt and can make accessing
the oval hole a bit hard to do, as well as getting to the lock bar for
releasing, while I was a little hesistant, I went ahead and did it and
I would highly recommend anyone having one of these to look into
doing the same, just be very careful when grinding! I then polished the
thumb ramp and very smooth opening now, here are a few quick shots
taken to night;

Thanks again Tom and Buck!

I have a Buck/Mayo TnT, and I think it is one of the best knives out there!! It is light, sits low clipped to your pocket, and is wicked sharp right out of the box!! And it is a way for me, to have a Mayo, until I CAN get one from Mr. Mayo. I LOVE this knife! It goes with me everyday. I can not say enough things about this wonderful knife! And like someone else said: "Thank you Tom & Buck." You must get one!

That's a sweet modification you made. Excellent illustrative photos as well. Did you use a belt sander/grinder to mod that one, or some type of small drum or bit?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: imho, the Mayo/Buck 172 is one of the best production values out there, considering materials, design, and workmanship.

Another mod I saw done that looked like a nice idea (I think it might have been PiterM), was to slightly remove/smooth/curve the outer edges from the inside of the pocket clip where it contacts the pocket. Haven't tried it yet, but now that I've seen your thumb ramp mod, I think I feel a grinding session coming on. :)

Thanks guys, I have a 9" flat disk sander I made on an arbhor to grind down
the bulk of the curve and then smoothed it up on a 1" sanding drum attachment that also
fits onto the arbhor, and then with a buffing wheel to smooth it to mirror polish.
