Did I make a bad call? I just realized I got two that are VERY similar. The Spyderco online store had a good little sale. I grabbed two new blades for 40.00.

What do you think, are they too similar LOL?

I like them both! they have different locks and different shaped blades and for $40 why not?? I wouldn't feel bad about the purchase

I think you will be very pleased with your purchase. I don't have any Byrds, but I'm always hearing good things. I'll have to pick up a couple for myself...

Once they arrive and you've had a chance to experience them for a bit, be sure to post your thoughts!

well if a byrd in the hand is worth two in the bush, you made out pretty well having two in the hand.

HiJeff,

I think you will find both knives to be different from each other. We hope you enjoy them both. Let us know your thoughts after you've had a chance to play with them.

Let's not forget: Kill two Byrds with one stone...

For the money you have two knives that should serve you well and while I don't know your financial situation, I would think if they were lost or beat up pretty bad due to tough use, you wouldn't cry too much.

As Sal said, please follow-up with your impressions.

Recently got hold of a Meadowlark II in G-1O, VERY pleased.

I'm usually a Traditional type of knife user but I hope to keep an open mind and certainly see the advantages of modern knives, particularly when authentic as Spyderco/Byrd are:thumbup: I don't say I have a lot of experience in this area though, had a Delica which I gave away to a neighbour who had done me some important favours, he seems really pleased with it (it was a combo edge which I didn't take to, fine knife mind) also have a Mini-Grip and find it very tolerable. Decided to try a Meadowlark as I wanted a decent modern knife that was not going to cost an arm&a leg.

IMPRESSIONS

Very favourable, the G-10 is unadorned and un fussy but very well executed and grippy. Clip is strong without ripping your pocket off when removing it, opening action really creamy, size very useful although I MIGHT like to try a smaller Bryd too, any suggestions?. No hint of blade play, tight lock up but easy to close it too. Nice thin blade that is howling sharp:D Being used to and keen on Traditionals this knife slices superbly. Used it in the kitchen on shallots and other veggies, sliced some rind off cheese and it's seen outdoors in the garden tasks. All dealt with excellently, up a ladder in the snow (-20c today in Scandinavia)easy to cut some ties and felt very safe and workmanlike.

As I say, I don't profess to be an expert of any sort in modern knives but this strikes me as remarkably well thought out and well made for everyday tasks.
Those of you who work at Spyderco in the USA, Taiwan,China or Japan et al you are making a very good product!

NEGATIVES

Not in ergonomics, it's flawless but I have noticed the kick has 'crumbled' on the non clip side, (not during use, it arrived that way)looks like a stamping/forging error. I hope the other side does not crumble off either as this will lead to the blade hitting the liner and wrecking it I fear. Will ask the dealer what he can offer but as I live outside the USa in the EU this may be difficult or costly.

Nevertheless, a remarkably nice honest knife that I could well recommend for EDC.

On the Crow, does the liner lock stick out much? Does it affect/irritate your grip?

I'm thinking of getting a Raven, which looks similar, and one YouTube video said it was a problem.

Thanks,

Well thanks to out winter storm my package was delayed. So still no delivery.

I was planning to work up a little review once I get them and can try them out. Maybe by next weekend.

Since you asked about the Crow. I will review that one first.

I buy the small Spyderco's to more or less give away to those who do not carry a knife and never thought of one as a tool or for protection. Mostly to Women who can feel safer by having it in there Purse just in case.*! Like the Crow and Raven for just that purpose because they are small and very sharp and priced very reasonably for a well built knife. Lady's at my Bank love them and appreciate them and actually use them even to open mail or cut strings ect.
The Meadowlark for a few of my friends because it is bigger and a lock back which I think most men like and a few of my friends even started collecting Spydies because they were impressed with the way they were made.!
You can't go wrong with a Byrd line of knives in my opinion for what it is worth.!

Really? I thought the Crow/Raven were large knives and the Meadowlark I have, a medium sized model. Perhaps you mean the Finch or Robin?

How do you like the Meadowlark and Crow for EDC? I thought the Robin might be a bit too small for my tastes.

Jeff, see my short review. Very impressed by the knife apart from some damage on the kick. Good size for me, not a fan of large folders. Don't know about the Robin, probably rather undersized-hope someone else can join in.

Looking forward to hearing your impressions on the knives.

Regards, W

Great UPS has lost my package an hour away from my house.

Oh and their "investigations" can take up to 14 days. At least Sypderco jumped right on filing the "missing package" investigation.

My first post here on BladeForums, and I am very interested to hear more thoughts about the Byrd line as well as I just ordered a Meadowlark 2 in G10.
I really like the looks and especially the finger choil.
Good luck jeff_c on getting your knives!
