It took my android phone less than a minute. I've been under the impression that ipads are a solution for a non existent problem. Same thing as an iphone, near laptop size but can't do what a laptop does.

on topic- I never thought I'd say this, but i might be buying a crkt sometime this year.

Other than flash...sigh what can a laptop do that a ipad can't?

Word, power point, random tech savvy stuff that i don't use on my laptop anyways. I could be wrong, i don't have too much experience with an ipad.

Ok so I don't think you can (edit) power points but you can wach them. All the other things have a ipad equivalent though.
I bet your Android phone doesn't have a personal assistant named siri that will tell you the wheather lol

I don't know why I get into it with people about android vs apple...sigh last month i was talking to a guy at Walmart can't remember what whe where talking about but then "apple" "no android" "no appl.....

Haha i stand corrected then. I have no problem with Apple products at all. Id be just as happy with an Iphone as my android. They both would do what i need them to do. Call, text, check email, weather, news, and most importantly....Bladeforums!

Its just tablets that I personally would have no use for. I've got my phone for on the go and laptop at home. My tablet budget goes to knife budget:D

Back on topic again lol- Are any of these new knives going to be sold at big chain stores like Wal Mart?

I wish I had a tablet fund let alone a knife fund lol.
I'd love to see some of these at Walmart though.

If i bought a tablet last year i think the only new knife i would have gotten is my brown Skyline instead of the 7 or 8 knives i bought. If Wal mart has that brown Ripple i might end up getting it.

I have had an iPad version 1 for the last 2 years and have enjoyed it a lot. I use it for 2-3 hours a day and have had no issues. The only bad thing about it is being tied to Apple with iBooks and iTunes. Mine is the 3G version and it comes in handy when I am working out in the field.

I've had an ipad 2 for just over a year and I really like it. I use it mostly for casual internet browsing but I also use it to check email, read PDF's and view photos. I can load photos on it and carry it like an electronic photo album.

It is a lot quicker and easier to use for internet browsing than a laptop because it is smaller and easier to carry around, and has real good battery life. If I am at home and want to check something on the internet but I don't want to have to get the laptop out and set it up, I can just pick up the ipad. If it is already on then it wakes up instantly, if it is not on then it only takes a few seconds to boot up. It is so good with battery that it is reasonable to just leave it on 24/7. It only loses a few percent of battery power from day to day.

Now if you want to use a lot of apps and work data between them, or if you want to do a lot of typing, a real computer is better and I get the real computer out for that.

The ipad is relatively expensive and for most people it would be hard to justify the price except as an expensive toy. If money is important then there are other tablets that are much less expensive.

And BTW my ipad seems to browse the internet faster most of the time than my overclocked dual core intel processor desktop computer.

[sigh] Seriously?

Read SD cards.
Play CDs.
Play DVDs.
Play Blue-ray discs.
Video output to television or monitor.
Connect to mouse.
Connect keyboard.
Connect keypad for data entry.
Upgradeable graphics (on some laptops).
Upgradable storage.
Upgradeable RAM.
Interact with and connect to camera, cell phone, GPS, and calculators. (physically connect, and run the manufacturers' software)
Surround sound output. Critical for games, movies, video editing, etc.
Connect to LAN / ethernet.

Running industry standard and common household software titles: AutoCAD, Arcview, Office, Photoshop, etc., etc., etc.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind having a nice expensive iPad or iPod Touch (I do own a Samsung Galaxy Player), but these are all really just toys and not substitutes for a real computer except for only the most un-advanced consumers.

No tablet is capable of replacing a laptop. That being said, laptops have tons of more capabilities. I'm sure even without looking that the advantages a laptop brings to your... lap, have been mentioned by other users.

What catalog were you downloading that took 3+ minutes to download? Also, what ipad were you using and what programs were running? Before we can properly evaluate the situation and help you, we need details!! ;)

How does iPad printing work?

On the Samsung tablets you can save to an SD card, insert the SD card into any real computer, and print. Or many printers have their own SD slot, so you don't even need the computer.

Can you even print from an iPad, without buying a hundred dollar "airport" accessory or wireless printer? Smells like a scam to me.

Yes you need a air printer and yes it's apple marketing.

It was the 2013 crkt catalog. Ipad 3. And I only had a hand full of apps running cant remember which ones though.

I agree but the ipad can connect to a camera and a keyboard you can also connect to a monitor with proper cables........sigh

Just so you all know I wasn't the one who posted this thread I was just trying to pas the time while the catalog was Loading. so I posted how long it takes my ipad to load i was not asking a question. Esav made this thread (I in no way mean to insult Esav he's a awsome guy)

Bottom line
my ipad is not a laptop but it gets what I need to do done so........rant over i'll be asking a mod to close this thread.

Ain't closed.

Read online reviews of tablets vs laptops/netbooks. No comparison. Nobody blogs on a tablet, most who input a lot of copy attach a keyboard.

Nope, tablets aren't laptops - I don't need or want to pay for another app downloaded when the free programming I get with a real computer can do it all from the moment I power up.

Tablets don't even get the same web pages, they use stripped ones with restricted views. I see that every morning - my wife shows me the radar on her tablet, I show her the interactive radar with temperature gradients, then switch to another link with wind direction, then expand to track hurricanes, then check the live camera views on WeatherBug for actual precipitation, then

I hope the point is clear now. Tablets are nice, they are simply large phones that don't dial out - they Skype, a laptop service.

I'm a desktop user. There's nothing like a full-size keyboard, a mouse, and a big screen. My laptop is pretty much only used to manage my music collection. I use my tablets and phones to browse and read.

Just as a tablet is no substitute for a laptop, a laptop is no substitute for a tower. :)
