Just something I've been thinking about.

I was sharpening one of my knives the other day, and my hand slipped cutting my hand a little bit (it's a hand held sharpener).

Anyway so as I was doctoring myself up my wife started freaking out about it.

That's when I got to thinking... If you're afraid to be cut you shouldn't be playing with knives... What I mean to say I guess is that accidents do happen, take precautions but don't be shocked when it does happen.

I would be really surprised if there isn't one person here that hasn't cut themselves. I've done it a few times one of which was really bad and they were afraid I might lose feeling in my finger.

7 stitches on the top of my left hand

Using SharpMaker and Not paying attention
BM 740 Dejavoo barely touched me.

Wife called me a Dumb Azz

i was whitteling in the park one day, and i got careless, and my hand slipped and went all the way to the bone (left hand, index finger, right on the knuckle) I had to make a compress and ride no handed on my bicycle 7 miles home with my hand above my head... that was last summer, and my knuckle still isnt healed.

I severed 2 tendons, an artery and vein in my dominate hand forefinger putting a paracord wrap on an Izula. It's a lesson I'm reminded of daily by the scars and restricted mobility, not to mention the monthly $25 bill for the next 36 years from the surgeon as my benefits hadn't kicked in at my new job at the time.

Crap only happens like this through complacency. That was 3 years ago, I still play with knives all day everyday, and I've not had so much as a scratch since. Keep your wits about you and you won't get nicked.

Pretty solid advice. I've cut myself thousands of times, nothing that bad, but always from getting to complacent and careless.

Well, if you're a race-car driver, you'll likely end up with a few dinged fenders. Part of the grand design.

Almost chopped the tip of my middle finger off being careless with a Spyderco Tuff. Got down to the bone. Super glued the cut. Barely a scar now. Sh!t happens.

I learned my lesson about how to handle sheaths and fixed blades with a Cold Steel Spike. I've also spent a lot of time flipping balisongs for a few years, so I welcomed little cuts into my life.
