I took apart my Sebbie the Reeves' way and found that the washers get scratched. This probably makes no difference but I don't want my washers all scratched up. I think I'll just stick to the "sandwich" method. If done right, the "sandwich" method is better IMO. I also lube both sides of the washers. It probably makes no difference but I'm not going to take any chances.

yes, I've noticed this too. Actually, I've always been concerned that over time and several reassemblies, the washers and bushing could be reduced in thickness, enough to introduce to side to side play.

Oh yes, of course, just replace the washers. Why didn't I think of that? Silly me. I mean I've got money to burn you know and I'll just go ahead and replace my washers every time a take my sebenza apart. Hell, I'll just buy a year supply of washers. Oh what the hell, I'll just go ahead and buy 20 Sebenzas and after each one dulls, I'll just toss it and use the next one.

Do I detect ruffled feathers? First you question the "Reeves way", then you freak at a bit of superb common sense, submitted by a guy new to the BFC. Who, BTW, was not being a smart ass.

Relax. Be polite. USE your Sebenza, it's made to be used. You'll enjoy life a lot more.

You are right, Your Holiness The great Dalai Lama. I bow to ye. Oh great one.

washers being scratched doesn't bother me... matches the outside of mine . I did polish the crap out of the washers with Flitz... now the washers scratch even easier... doh !

it was my understanding these are precision washers, with high tolerances, which is exacty why Chris Reeve asks that you do not polish them. Am I wrong?

Well, since washers are so damn cheap, why don't we just get a bag full. That'll solve this problem. I mean money will solve everything ya know.

I look at like a car engine... you want to try to NOT gouge/scratch or mar the cylinders when installing the pistons. Whichever way enables you to do that I say go for it.

I also lube both sides of the washers , for no other reason that I think it works best for me that.

I have recently tried the Militec-1 grease , has anyone else used this stuff ? Smells like rear end gear lube.... don't tast all that well either:eek:

Um the45guy, I may be wrong but I don't think that stuff is eatable. Unless you have a weird freaky fetish where you do things with your Sebenza that we don't want to know about. But I'm not here to judge, it's okay.

Well I lubed up the Sebby...must have had some on my fingers and got some on the blade... guess I didnt get it all off...sliced an apple with it for lunch and :barf:

It does have a definite smell to it.... guess it's time to order the CRK grease

Freaky fetish.. lol...;)

Wow, drama in a Sebenza thread that doesn't involve the "S" word. This is refreshing!!

Personally, when disassembling my Sebenzas I have never really paid much attention to the surface of the washers. I am sure thats an important part of a smooth functioning knife, but I have disassembled mine quite a few times since the sticky thread instructing me how was posted. No problems here what so ever.

Are these washers direct from CRK for .50?? I just ordered a slip case for my wifes Sebbie and would have had them send me some as back ups.

I took apart mine quite a few times now, but don't see any linear scratches on the washers or bushing from pulling the blade out of the handles...

General, Wow, drama in a Sebenza thread that doesn't involve the "S" word. This is refreshing!! LOL :D:)

Ted, that's because your sebbie is broken in. If you take apart a NIB sebenza by removing the blade first, you'll scratch the washers due to the bead blasting in the handles. The scratches are very subtle but they are their. With some sebbies, the washers come all scratched up from the factory. I know this for a fact, I've bought plenty of sebbies. So all this talk is probably pointless.
